"This place is where the Son of God rests, and also... my lord’s backup plan?"
As the bearer of the holy fire entered these grand but broken ruins, he was taken aback by the magnificent sun mural on the shattered square.
If it were a common adventurer, they would probably think of it as just a dilapidated ruin or a sanctuary.
However, this distorted and reimagined sun disk was the old emblem of the Sun God, and also recorded many stories and history.
While texts might change over time and word-of-mouth could become rumors, paintings, simple and straightforward as they were, were relatively easy to understand.
"...The history of this place is not that long, only about sixty or seventy years..."
Although the intelligence matched, the content exceeded everyone’s imagination.
On the mural was a simple and unadorned "story".
The sun had eleven children. Some looked like humans, some like beasts, and some were just a ball of flowing fire.
One day, one of them was attacked by a giant black bird. The child, draped in beast fur, fell beneath the sun.
The sun felt sorrow, and its tears fell upon the child’s heart, as a pale flame enveloped the child’s corpse.
Then, a group of mortals built a palace and sent the child to eternal sleep.
As a story, it was boring and confusing, but if you looked at some of the key points, they contained important information.
"...The Divine Son, the bloodline of the Sun God..."
"Tears of the Gods... Tears of the Sun..."
In all aspects, this was an unfavorable development.
Especially the last mural, depicting a protected god-beast corpse with a small sun embedded in it.
The fellow Holy Flame priests became instantly fanatical; it was not a wild god that slept in this underground palace but the genuine bloodline of the Sun God.
From the murals, it had also received the last blessing of the deities: The "tear" that originated from the Sun God, protecting their children’s eternal sleep.
What did that small sun symbol mean? Was this the backup plan left by the Sun God in case of their own demise?!
Some knights in the team thought they were overthinking. After all, the Sun God still hung in the sky obediently, only temporarily absent due to astronomical phenomena... The priests glared at the knight who spoke these words, making sure he had no intention of blasphemy before giving up pursuing responsibility.
"Tears of the Gods and Divine Blood, huh..."
Was it a coincidence? Did they just accidentally dig up the bloodline of a powerful figure while grave robbing? Or was it...
Lu Ping’an looked at the clueless Catherine. She was the only Holy Fire Knight present and the being closest to the origin of the Sun God.
He felt fate’s arrangement; otherwise, it wouldn’t be such a coincidence.
Touching his chin, Lu Ping’an didn’t feel the ecstasy of winning at this time; instead, he seriously considered whether to give up.
Every stage of a professional had its limits, and he had really experienced deity-level events; even a Quasi-God was absolutely unreachable by their current means... Being inexplicably killed by powerful beings in an instant was too tragic a way to die.
Getting involved in a grand event involving the bloodline of the Main God was highly risky and rewarding, but there seemed to be no need to rush; he could eventually reach higher levels...
"The Sun God is also a God of Life, and this resting Beast God is clearly part of the Life system too. It, he, or she should have inherited the Sun God’s bloodline as a God of Life. The bloodline power of a top-level God of Life... Lu Ping’an, if you miss this chance, you might never get another opportunity in this lifetime."
On the other side of the courtyard, the big cat didn’t shout excitedly or entice him; she merely stated the possibilities silently.
Yet Lu Ping’an felt that she was serious.
"...Here, here, there’s that Tree-cat!"
Suddenly, a voice broke the silence of the scene.
Across from the child’s story was another collapsed hall... Xue En was sitting below, holding his head and rolling around. It seemed that a small collapse had just happened here.
And the curious cat, pointing at the newly exposed mural, asked others to come and see.
"What tree? Aren’t there trees everywhere here..."
Just a glance and everyone’s attention was captured by it.
It was a Human-faced Tree... with countless faces on it calling out and screaming. Not too long ago, many people in the team saw it through Spirit Vision.
"Knight Ben, can you be certain that there wasn’t such a tree here before?"
"Absolutely not. We regularly clear potential hazards in areas this close; we couldn’t have missed it."
"A prophecy? Or a hint that something is sealed inside?"
"Could it be that the tree we saw is the bloodline of the Beast God? Is it going to resurrect?"
People’s imaginations often run wild. In Lu Ping’an’s view, after knowing part of the truth, some of the answers were simply ridiculous.
But now, as the ruins were quickly cleared, more wall paintings were discovered, and Lu Ping’an couldn’t laugh any longer.
There were seven murals; it seemed that the first two had already happened.
First, there was a decaying, cracking planet with what seemed like some sort of emitting signals, accompanied by countless falling stars.
Each rushing star had numerous strange and bizarre creatures on them, most resembling demons.
Second, there was a tree that a cat was pointing to, only it wasn’t a single tree...On that circular representation of the planet, there were many such disgusting human-faced trees.
And that wasn’t even the most unsettling part of the second painting.
Above the planet, a sun was weeping, and it had already split in two, seemingly losing its ability to emit light.
The only thing accompanying the planet was a pair of moons, but they too were sweating profusely, seemingly unable to hold on...
"This is blasphemy! To depict such a blasphemous picture in the palace of My Lord!"
Immediately, a priest flew into a rage.
"No, this cannot be the palace of My Lord. This is all a deception by the demons, is it from the Foreign Domain? Is it you?"
Laying unfounded accusations on Lu Ping’an and his group, he just laughed...Naturally, someone went over to have a good conversation with the "half-crazed priest."
But soon, he couldn’t laugh either.
Not to mention him, no one present who saw the third mural could laugh.
It was still a desperate landscape, only now there were more cracks in the ground, seemingly in the process of splitting apart.
But before it completely disintegrated, there was something even more worrying.
Within the cracks, countless tiny skeletons were climbing up. Some were purely bones, while others still had some flesh.
"...Ben, what do skeletons represent here? Treasure? Oh, I see, it must be a medical thing."
"Do bones have any other meaning other than death and the dead?"
Well, at least there was no cultural conflict in this regard, but no one present seemed happy.
Especially Lu Ping’an, who had sharp eyes and saw a familiar figure among the skeletons rushing to the surface.
"...It’s the Beast God..."
The pointy ears, the sharp teeth, and the markings of the sun’s embodiment; it would be too incredible to mistake it for anything else at this point.
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible! This is all a fabrication, all a disguise..."
The priest who had been pinned to the ground was still roaring in rage, but soon, he could no longer speak.
From the shadows, figures emerged one by one. The wolves that had been following them all the way finally began their final hunt.
Only now, they were even more "unique"... Some wolves had mutated half their bodies, while others lost half their flesh entirely, walking on their dried bones and staring at these reckless living people with their blue-flamed eyes.
Finally, accompanied by a wolf howl, a giant wolf landed, and everyone saw the large Wolf King lurking in the shadows for the first time.
It, however, was left with only bones and shadows.
In the main branch of the Rainbow Church in the Holy City, there was a stone slab wrapped in white cloth, with one line saying:
"...The third disaster, the catastrophe of the living; the earth turned over; the poison of the dead seeped out, ubiquitous. When the dead return, how far can the awakening of the Ancient Gods be?..."
