The cave wasn’t very large, likely only capable of accommodating four or five people.
Inside was pitch-black until Calvin Ramos lit a fire, which then illuminated the interior.
It inexplicably gave one a sense of fear.
"Stay here for a while, I’ll go find some firewood," he said.
Using a few sticks to keep the fire going, Calvin Ramos said to Becca Reyes, his handsome brows and eyes giving off an inexplicable sense of reassurance.
Becca Reyes nodded.
She had a fever and felt weak all over. At this moment, she naturally couldn’t concern herself with Calvin Ramos’s actions.
Let him go.
Do whatever he wants.
It wasn’t until he reached the entrance of the cave that Becca Reyes suddenly realized something and, in a daze, looked up toward the entrance and called out.
"Calvin Ramos."
Her voice had barely faded.
The figure at the entrance paused momentarily.
Becca Reyes opened her mouth and then realized that her address was a bit intimate. After thinking for a moment, she said in a low voice, "It’s raining heavily outside, the deadwood is probably all wet."
"There will be some dry ones."
Turning slightly, Calvin Ramos looked at her, his eyes flickering with the jumping light of the fire.
She had barely started speaking when Becca Reyes stopped herself.
A soldier, strong and sturdy, afraid of a bit of rain?
Moreover, she had no relationship with him, so it wasn’t her place to worry too much.
Seeing her fall silent, Calvin Ramos lowered his gaze and thought for a moment, then, without saying more, stepped out of the cave.
The light inside the cave was dim.
Becca Reyes watched him at the entrance, feeling as if his silhouette had disappeared into the darkness as soon as he stepped out.
Unaccountably, her heart felt a twinge.
After a moment, Becca Reyes took a deep breath and forcefully suppressed the surging emotions in her heart.
To like is to like.
She liked him once.
She still does now.
Rationality and emotion are never on the same plane.
Rationality told her, Calvin Ramos was a jerk, quick to find a new girlfriend after breaking up, nothing good.
Probably, he was just playing with her.
Maybe he was juggling several at once.
Emotion told her she still liked Calvin Ramos.
She would subconsciously pay attention to his whereabouts, feel heartache over his relationship with Cherry Hamilton, and lay awake at night, missing him until she couldn’t sleep, even though Flossie Wright had made it clear she didn’t like him, Reyes still became someone who betrayed loyalties at the sight of temptation.
She couldn’t let go of him.
Her heart might flutter because of a word from him.
His warmth might make her heart feel as sweet as honey.
Her whole heart felt like it was melting.
If not for the restraint of rationality, Becca Reyes even felt she would have thrown caution to the wind and rushed towards Calvin Ramos like a moth to a flame.
Becca Reyes despised herself from the bottom of her heart.
How could she fall for such a person?!
She gritted her teeth in secret.
Unknowingly, her mouth tasted blood, and Becca Reyes was startled, only then realizing that she had bitten her lip.
Feeling disheartened, she frowned and let out a sigh, eventually just collapsing on the ground.
It was icy cold.
She closed her eyes weakly and fatigued.
Time passed.
Becca Reyes felt an icy coldness as if her entire body were frozen, unable to feel any warmth.
Where was the fire?
Thinking this, she struggled to open her eyes. The flames of the campfire danced in her vision, swaying, yet she couldn’t feel the slightest warmth.
