The thunderous noise echoed through the air, shaking the earth and making even the troops yet to approach the building feel the ground shaking beneath them. The well-trained soldiers were stunned for a moment, but quickly regrouped according to the prearranged plan, ready to carry out any new orders issued for an attack.
Patrick Morrison was left feeling dizzy and overwhelmed by the explosion. However, his first instinct after recovering was to stop Rowdy Brightwill and Glenn Hutchinson. Yet, to his surprise, in the blink of an eye, the two men had disappeared without a trace, nowhere to be found.
"Dammit, don’t tell me they..."
Meanwhile, a soldier from the same team as Patrick Morrison approached. Upon not seeing Rowdy Brightwill and Glenn Hutchinson, he turned to Morrison, his face as disheartened as his own.
What on earth was going on? Were they just adding to the chaos?!
"Don’t worry just yet."
Patrick Morrison made efforts to calm his mind and reassured his comrades, his expression becoming steadier.
"How can we not worry?!" exclaimed the comrade, pointing to the empty vehicles with a face full of frustration and anxiety. "They both hold rank. If something happens, even capturing all these criminals won’t make up for it!"
"No, I don’t think they’re in danger." Morrison’s mind raced as he scanned his surroundings. He pulled his anxious comrade to the side, and whispered in his ear, "That officer is from Special Forces."
"We are also..."
The comrade began to interject indignantly, but his words were quickly cut off by surprise, and he just stared at Morrison, as if to confirm his statement.
Special Forces?
If it were a regular unit, given Glenn Hutchinson’s rank, he would be an office rat with no battle skills, and no one would dare send him into combat.
But if they’re from Special Forces, it’s a different story entirely...
Anyone who entered that place must be highly skilled.
Turning over this new information in his mind, the comrade quietly asked, "Which military district?"
Morrison’s face stiffened. Given the level of confidentiality Glenn Hutchinson maintained, he wasn’t sure if he should disclose the information.
However, he didn’t dwell on the problem for long, as the Captain soon issued orders through the earpiece.
A commotion as large as this would likely cause the criminals to flee, and if there were any fish that slipped the net, they would be held responsible. After receiving police permission, the military swiftly took action. Two separate teams moved to surround the building at top speed.
The two men who had just disappeared were already near the entrance of the building when the teams started to move. They easily cleared all obstacles and headed for the warehouse, identifying their targets among the fleeing criminals.
Before that—
Outside the quiet warehouse a cold wind swept through, each gust causing their skin to prick with chill. Two men huddled outside, rubbing their hands together. The increasingly cloudy sky stripped away the warmth, making the air colder and colder.
"Locking her up here, she can’t possibly escape on her own, right? Why do the two of us need to stand guard?"
A lean man grumbled, his voice filled with annoyance.
If the weather were pleasantly cool, standing guard wouldn’t be an issue. But in this winter chill, with the temperature so low even without snow, standing in the bitter wind was unbearable and nothing could cheer them up.
