Speaking, Willie Ash paused briefly, observing Flossie Wright’s expression before adding, "If I remember correctly, the casualties in the residential area were minimal, and many people were rescued later on."
Watching him, Flossie Wright nodded slightly.
"Umm, there’s also..." Rubbing the back of his neck, Willie Ash seemed nervous, tentatively saying, "Let me ask you, do you have any relatives or friends here? If you want to look for someone, we can help you."
Looking up, with an indifferent expression, Flossie Wright spoke coolly, "A friend’s hometown, I came to see it."
"What about your friend?" Unable to restrain his curiosity, Willie Ash asked.
Just two simple words.
Having said that, Flossie Wright turned and went back the way she had come.
"Hey—" Caught off guard by her sudden turn, Willie Ash turned to watch her, calling out loudly, "Did you see your friend’s house?"
Ahead, her figure paused briefly.
For a moment.
"I saw it."
Flossie Wright continued forward, her voice trailing slowly with the wind.
Mystified as he stared at her receding figure, Willie Ash watched her walk away at a leisurely pace, his expression growing increasingly perplexed. With a hint of doubt, he glanced back a few times but didn’t dwell on it and hurriedly ran a few steps forward, lest he lose sight of Flossie Wright.
The two of them, gradually distancing further.
Behind them—
From afar, one could see a house that was distinct from the surrounding buildings, with an extensive footprint, indicating how glorious it once must have been.
Yet now, the perimeter wall had completely collapsed, and the once-dilapidated houses inside were utterly destroyed.
Wood and stone piled up, roof tiles scattered on the ground, together with several dead trees fallen, leaving behind nothing but desolation.
In the distance.
Flossie Wright’s face was calm, looking at the ruined street around her, yet her bright eyes shimmered with tears.
Let it end here.
She thought.

If she continued on, she might, truly not bear it.
It’s quite painful.
One step, another step.
Beneath the dusky grey sky, that departing figure, amidst the chilly spring breeze, stood tall with a straight back, her figure slender, carrying a sense of resolute finality.
Past one street, it didn’t take long.
Ten minutes later, they arrived beside the previously collapsed school.
This time, the commotion there once again drew their attention.
"What are you going to do?!"
The shrieks and screams were so piercing that they made the eardrums hurt.
Flossie Wright halted in her steps, frowning lightly as she looked toward the school.
Two soldiers were carrying a stretcher, upon which lay another soldier whose leg appeared to be crushed, the pant leg stained with blood.
The woman who had been screaming madly was yelling at the two soldiers carrying the stretcher; her hair disheveled, her emotions intense, a man beside her trying to hold her back, but she kept struggling.
Suddenly, other soldiers also walked over.
"They’re just sending their comrades for treatment."
"They will come back."
The two soldiers were trying to explain, both with somewhat troubled expressions on their faces.
"Will come back?" Questioning, the woman suddenly went insane, pushing the man next to her back several steps, then walked up to the stretcher.
With a scoff, she said, "Who knows if you’ll ever return once you leave, what’s the big deal, it’s just a leg injury, why not just support him back? If three of you leave, who knows if there’ll be more injuries later, and a few more leave?!"
"Hey! Can’t you talk sense!"
The soldier at the front carrying the stretcher, his patience wearing thin, was angered.
