Ever since Flossie Wright showed up, Glenn Hutchinson was aware of her arrival. But it wasn’t until she walked up to him, did he lift his eyelids to take a look at her. His expression showed no difference from usual, cold and calm, seemingly indifferent to everything around him.
But there seemed to be something different.
With a wave of his hand towards the grassland beside him, Glenn Hutchinson ordered in a low but forceful voice, "Sit."

There was a moment of hesitation, yet she refrained from asking questions or rejecting his offer. Flossie knew he had something to say, and perhaps the meal was merely a cover. So she complied and sat down.
The evening breeze swept through, rustling the withered grass leaves by her side.
Flossie began to feel a bit cold.
As if knowing what she was feeling, a jacket was offered to her.
She squinted and noticed that Glenn Hutchinson was in his uniform, which he only wore the shirt inside since the very beginning.
Without hesitation, she took the jacket. Flossie stuffed the food she was holding into Glenn Hutchinson’s hands and casually slung the uniform, with its two stripes and a star on the shoulder, over her back.
A breeze lifted the corners of the uniform, revealing the eye-catching insignia completely. However, Flossie remained unfazed, as if she completely dominated the jacket.
Glenn Hutchinson took a few glances at her, a soft look creeping into his eyes.
He began with a question that sounded more like a chit-chat than a sincere inquiry.
Lifting her eyes, she looked at him sidelong, her gaze colliding with his deep black eyes. After a few moments of eye contact, Flossie pulled away. She looked out into the sea in front of her, answering casually, "Whatever."
"Do you like soldiers?"
Glenn Hutchinson asked casually, not really caring about her answer.
After a slight pause, Flossie’s stern expression relaxed. She looked ahead, but her tone moderated a bit, "No."
She lacked the qualities a soldier should possess and did not care about the restrictions they face. The so-called patriotism and selfless dedication, she could understand these beliefs but could not embrace them as her own.
Moreover...
Memories flitted through her mind in fragments. Flossie furrowed her brow, purposefully suppressing those memories, her face returning to calmness.
No matter how she tried, she just couldn’t bring herself to like this profession.
Or to put it in another way, when she was a mercenary, it was considered generous of her not to kill every soldier she met.
Glenn Hutchinson didn’t seem surprised at all. He simply followed up, "So, why did you join the military?"
If you don’t like it, why did you join?
Naturally, this was the question that followed up, but to Glenn Hutchinson, it didn’t matter much. It was merely a part of the conversation.
"It was an accident." She replied plainly. Thinking for a moment, Flossie added, "To be closer to Rowdy Brightwill."
A hint of surprise showed in Glenn Hutchinson’s eyes as he looked at Flossie, but he couldn’t discern anything from her reaction.
She was simply stating a fact. No personal feelings or opinions, no emphasis.
It was just as it was, hence that was how she stated it.
However, Glenn Hutchinson vividly remembered that it was always Rowdy Brightwill who had been pursuing her, he had never witnessed any sign of her liking towards Rowdy Brightwill, let alone pursuing him. She usually avoided him if possible, and treated him perfunctorily if not. Clearly, this was inconsistent with her justification.
