Standing idle under the umbrella, Flossie Wright glanced casually into the crowd and met a slew of examining eyes. As her gaze swept over them, they quickly retreated, catching her unawares. She raised an eyebrow and immediately met Jocelyn Carrington’s awkwardly wavering gaze. Jocelyn deliberately looked away, her gaze flitting everywhere without any specific point of focus.
Flossie couldn’t help but chuckle lightly. Not wanting to prolong her embarrassment anymore, she quickly shifted her gaze.
"Flossie," Becca Reyes came over with a serious expression and whispered, "Your friend, she has a high fever."
Flossie paused slightly and looked at the staggering figure of Janice Wood in the crowd before asking Becca, "What does she say?"

"She insists on training."
Becca looked at Flossie doubtfully, unsure of her intention in asking.
Becca could understand Janice’s determination. As a soldier, even when injured or in pain, one must persevere. But on the other hand, health is the capital of revolution. If Janice continued training with a high fever, it would not only hinder her progress but also potentially break her health.
"Oh," Flossie nodded slightly and didn’t continue the topic.
She wasn’t used to forcing others to change their minds, or imposing her thoughts on others.
Had she been in this situation, she certainly wouldn’t have stubbornly insisted as Janice had. Flossie knew her well. She wouldn’t agree to see a doctor now, and given the instructor’s mindset, he wouldn’t grant Janice leave unless she fell down in front of him. If that was the case, it was better to save the effort of persuading two people and let her continue training until she collapsed.
After all, a real battlefield wouldn’t care if you were weak, sick, and defenseless.
In less than ten minutes, all the ginger soup had been distributed. The happy kitchen staff even handed a bowl to the stern Instructor. The Instructor’s cold glares were ignored, and he bragged about Flossie’s excellent shooting skills unabashedly, clearly aiming to irritate him. Becca Reyes, who was watching from the sidelines, sighed at his immaturity.
Half an hour later, Flossie and others finally returned to the cooking class’ area. They had just put down their stuff when Captain Lin strode into the kitchen with a stern face. His icy glares instantly hushed the entire kitchen.
"Captain..." A kitchen staff attempted a smile and called out, but was soon silenced by the Captain’s annoyed expression.
Eyeing them sharply, Lin exploded in anger, "You went out for a bit and come back all high and mighty. A cook humiliated all new soldiers!"
A kitchen staff member couldn’t help but pipe up again, "Doesn’t that prove how great our cooking class is..."
"Great! Now everyone knows the cooking class has a marksman. So amazing, so impressive, very impressive!" Captain Lin angrily cut in. Reaching the peak of his anger, he lectured them, "Look at yourselves! How many eyes will be on you, didn’t you think of that when showing off? Can you fight at will in the forces?!"
The kitchen staff was taken aback. Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes exchanged a glance, a spark of understanding flickering in their eyes.
So, the Captain wasn’t angry about their flaunting, but that they had "accidentally" given others ammunition and made it hard for him to overtly "favor" them in the future?
"Captain, Flossie was being chivalrous. I think as long as she writes a self-critique to admit her mistake, it’ll be enough!" Without hesitation, Becca stood up and confidently proposed to Captain Lin.
"Chivalrous deeds? In a place like the forces, where do you see any opportunity for ’chivalry’?!" The captain’s anger was not assuaged. His gaze swept over Becca and landed on Flossie before he impatiently pointed to the packed crayfish nearby, "Hurry up, what are you vacuuming for, go give it to Captain Hutchinson!"
Glancing at the packed crayfish, Flossie twitched at the corner of her mouth. This couldn’t be... a bribe, could it?
