The little boy seemed to have predicted their behavior, immediately turning his head to look at Flossie Wright, who was standing outside the door.
Flossie, standing outside with her arms crossed, couldn’t help but laugh when she saw his expression. She was dragged here to play the role of his parent.
A few shop assistants followed the little boy’s gaze and noticed Flossie. They shared a glance, murmuring to themselves about such a peculiar parent, but greeted her with smiles. The enthusiastic assistants replaced the boy’s watch and even gave him lots of snacks. The boy only picked up a lollipop from the heap of snacks.
Even though the little boy kept a cool face the entire time, he politely said goodbye to the shop assistants before leaving. Then, clutching his new watch, he walked closely behind Flossie.
"Is there something else?"
Flossie walked a few steps, wrinkling her brows at the sight of him keeping in step with her, she asked somewhat incredulously.
She had taken care of his problems, but what did this little imp want now?
"Here." The little boy stood next to her, handing the lollipop that he received from the shop assistants to Flossie. His youthful face was full of sincerity. "Thank you."
After observing him for a few moments, Flossie hesitated. Even though she despised the lollipop, it seemed that she had no reason to decline, so she reached out and took it.
"You’re not going to eat it?"
Waving the lollipop in her hand, Flossie asked tentatively.
"No." The little boy shook his head decisively and grabbed Flossie’s sleeve, just like before. He discarded his cold demeanor, looking up at Flossie with a pitiful expression. His voice was soft and obedient, "Sis, can you take me to find my dad?"
Her corner of her mouth twitched, and Flossie’s eyes flickered.
She knew it wouldn’t be as simple as he made it seem.
Flossie was not particularly fond of children. When other people spoke of children, they usually referred to their obedience and cuteness. To Flossie, young children were hard to communicate with before they could think maturely. Moreover, many children would use their unique skill—crying—and cry their eyes out whenever they were dissatisfied. The mere thought of this gave Flossie a headache.
If it were any other child, Flossie would’ve dismissed them without bothering to interact with them. But this boy was relatively mature. From the time Grady Wright bullied him to being surrounded by so many people, he hadn’t shed a single tear. Flossie found him presentable, so she didn’t mind helping him a bit.
But his clinginess...
It made Flossie feel slightly uneasy.
This child didn’t attempt to get close to anyone else. Even to those who initiated goodwill towards him, he had no reaction. All he did was politely say "thank you" when helped. He didn’t bother to interact with them. Instead, he persisted in getting close to Flossie, who never once offered a smile...
However, regardless of how troublesome Flossie found it, there was nothing she could do about it.
Even though Flossie was often cold-hearted, leaving a child who followed her for an hour alone in the shopping mall was something she couldn’t do easily.
"Where is your dad?"
Once again taking the little boy’s hand, Flossie asked casually, yet the lollipop she held was subtly put back into the boy’s pocket.
