Afterwards, she and Dian Deacon discussed how things might be improved if they were able to take Flossie Wright out to let her unwind. Predictably, her mood would improve, and conveniently, the three of them had never gone out together, so this seemed like a good chance to do so.
"Tomorrow, I have an appointment at noon."
Flossie Wright said this because she had just received a text message from Rowdy Brightwill, inviting her out for lunch that day.
Since Rowdy Brightwill was willing to go to such lengths to help her, even at his own expense, she certainly wouldn’t miss the engagement on short notice, and she didn’t have a habit of breaking appointments midway.
"Well, alright then."
Mother Wright, who was originally going to question exactly what was going on, ended up just nodding after some thought.
The bond between her and her daughter was slowly recuperating, and it wouldn’t be worth the risk to infuriate her daughter with intrusive questioning. After all, nobody enjoys having their privacy scrutinized.
For the rest of the morning, both Mother Wright and Dian Deacon paid close attention to Flossie Wright’s mood. The more normal she seemed, the more suspicious they were. Even Dian Deacon, who genuinely didn’t believe anything was amiss with Flossie Wright, became infected with the suspicion of Mother Wright. He began to observe Flossie Wright’s every move, fearing she might do something foolish in a careless moment.
This tense atmosphere persisted right until Flossie Wright stepped outside to meet her appointment.
"Should we go and check on her?"
Mother Wright, who watched Flossie Wright leave and couldn’t move even after seeing her get into the elevator, hesitated for a long time, before asking Dian Deacon with a concealed worry.
Dian Deacon’s face darkened. Seeing that Mother Wright was unable to tear her attention away from Flossie Wright, he was forced to bring her back inside.
He had no idea whether Flossie Wright would do anything foolish once she left the house; however, he knew for sure that if he let Mother Wright step out, she would definitely do something ridiculous.
Flossie Wright was not familiar with the roads in Capital City, but she had studied the map carefully the night before and had a clear grasp of the main routes. When she hailed a taxi, the driver, seeing that she was not a local, planned on taking the long way round, but she casually pointed out his intention. Her voice was so icy, like the grim reaper demanding his due, that the driver became terrified and immediately drove her straight to the busiest street around.
The bustling street was filled with vehicles and a diverse crowd of pedestrians. Flossie Wright entered a restaurant according to the address given by Rowdy Brightwill. It wasn’t a high-end restaurant. In fact, it appeared to be pretty ordinary from the outside. Only the interior was somewhat decent.
The pre-reserved seat was by the window that was huge and floor-reaching. Flossie Wright played with her phone as she waited for a message from Rowdy Brightwill. Just as she saw a message from Rowdy Brightwill saying he’d arrive a bit late, she noticed a woman standing outside the window seemingly studying her uncertainly.
She raised her eyelids and caught the stranger’s eye. The woman glimpsed at her and froze momentarily, then broke into a delighted smile. After she waved at her, she went away.
However, she didn’t leave but entered the restaurant...
It seemed she had specifically come to find Flossie Wright.
As her peripheral vision caught the elegantly pacing and gently smiling woman approaching her, Flossie Wright leaned against the back of her chair with a bored expression as if awaiting for her arrival.
If she remembered correctly, this woman was Flossie Wright’s college friend. However, they were presumably not very close, as she could only recall this woman’s face and name.
Kate Rivera.
"Flossie, it really is you?"
Upon nearing, Kate Rivera involuntarily covered her mouth in disbelief, evidently surprised.
Indeed, it was a surprise to see someone who should be serving in the Forces for two years appear in such a large city.
Flossie Wright tapped her fingers on the table, curiosity flickering in her eyes as if she didn’t recognize Kate Rivera.
Kate Rivera’s face flashed with awkwardness as she realized that the person she had recognized didn’t recognize her. But she couldn’t swallow her pride and could only laugh it off, explaining, "I’m Kate Rivera, remember? Your college classmate."
"Oh." Flossie Wright appeared to contemplate for a moment, nodding in realization. But before the smile on Kate Rivera’s face could fully bloom, she asked coldly, "Is there something you need?"
Kate Rivera found herself on the receiving end of another cold shoulder and her face colored with embarrassment. After a pause, she seated herself across Flossie Wright with a seemingly natural familiarity and asked in a softer tone, "It’s been so long since our last meet up. I thought I’d come say hi if I found an old friend. Is that not allowed?"
"Of course."
Flossie Wright simply acknowledged, clearly indicating that she was not interested in indulging any further.

However, Kate Rivera appeared as if she was reluctant to leave the matter there. After carefully studying Flossie Wright’s expressions, she opened her mouth to speak again, this time with a beaming smile, "Is someone having a date with you?"
Flossie Wright fluttered her eyelids, giving Kate Rivera a languid, indifferent look, waiting for her to continue.
"Oh, what a coincidence! Just yesterday my classmates and I were talking about you, as we are having an alumni reunion today. We even tried to contact you, but we assumed you’d be here after two years. We didn’t expect to run into you."
Kate Rivera managed to keep her smile calm, but her probing and meaningful tone was unmistakable. After a pause, she turned the conversation back to Flossie Wright.
"What do you think? The reunion is about to start. Would you care to join us?"
