"No, it’s okay..." said Yvonne Watson, shaking her head awkwardly, "You go ahead."
Flossie Wright shrugged, pretending to know nothing. She took the minced meat in her hands and walked towards the member of the cooking class who was making buns.
All the hopes in Yvonne Watson’s heart had been smashed. Without any support, she felt a turmoil inside. Knowing that the buns were soon to be wrapped, she could not help but speed up her chopping action, each movement consciously vicious.
However, in less than two minutes—
A desperate scream echoed through the kitchen. All the people in the cooking class stopped their actions in surprise, looking towards the sound. Yvonne Watson was still holding the knife, but the blade was stained with blood. On the back of her left hand, blood was continuously flowing out of a long and wide wound, a sight that was distressing to all.
"Someone take her to the hospital!"
Seeing this scene, the class leader’s face became pale, and he dropped everything in his hand. As he strode towards her, he ripped off his apron and fashioned a bandage to apply to her wound.
Everyone else, witnessing the scene, was thrown into confusion. They watched as tears streamed down Yvonne Watson’s face, unsure of what to do.
Funnily enough, the two soldiers who were assisting in the kitchen remained particularly calm, having likely seen this type of injury before. They volunteered to take Yvonne Watson to the hospital.
The kitchen was in chaos for a while, until Yvonne Watson’s hand was roughly bandaged and, with teary eyes, was carried off to the hospital by a soldier. Only then did the other individuals finally relax, their nerves untensing.
They had been in the cooking class for so long and although some were quite clumsy, they had never seen anyone clumsy enough to cut themselves while cutting meat.
However, just as they were about to resume their tasks, Neal Thompson, who had been standing on the sidelines with a grim face, raised his voice—
"Flossie Wright, you were both cutting meat together. Why didn’t you help her cut?"
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the kitchen became tense.
Flossie Wright, who was accused out of the blue, looked at Neal Thompson charging towards her in bewilderment, frowning, "She has both her hands and feet. Why would I need to help her?"
Neal Thompson, who had been biased, assigned more meat to Flossie Wright by about twenty pounds. Therefore, her task was undoubtedly not equal to Yvonne Watson’s. If Flossie Wright finished cutting earlier, it was due to her own ability.
If she had helped Yvonne Watson, it would just be her being a Good Samaritan. If she didn’t help Yvonne Watson, it was still within reason.
Neal Thompson’s anger was far from extinguished. For some reason, he naturally blamed everything on Flossie Wright and furiously retorted, "If you had helped her, would she have cut her own hand?"
Becca Reyes, who had been standing aside not intending to meddle, found it both infuriating and funny that this woman was laying blame so illogically. It was not Flossie Wright who had wounded Yvonne Watson, but Yvonne Watson herself. The entire thing had nothing to do with Flossie Wright; she had no idea what was running through this woman’s mind.
"If Flossie helped someone as clumsy as her, she might still end up cutting herself." Without hesitation, Becca Reyes took a step forward and sided with Flossie Wright.
However, just as she finished speaking, Flossie Wright gave her a glance. Becca Reyes was puzzled, but upon seeing everyone else’s silent response, she understood and was suddenly filled with an unwarranted wave of anger.
