Knowing when to back down, however, Willie decided if he couldn’t fight back he’d better hide.
"I’ll be on my way now!"
Speaking humorously, Willie, all smiles, said this to both of them, and then quickly scampered into the dark jungle.
His primary concern was finding a good hiding spot as soon as possible.
However, even when Willie, who tended to be the comic relief, had gone, the atmosphere between Glenn Hutchinson and Flossie Wright remained unusually tense.
After looking curiously at Glenn a few times, Flossie shoved her late-night snack into his arms, casually saying, "Here."
Glenn tried to gauge the temperature of the food and said this to Flossie quite naturally.
The playful undertone in his voice couldn’t have been more obvious.
Flossie rolled her eyes exasperatedly. Since Glenn hadn’t run off randomly this time, she didn’t have to go looking for him, and since she had brought porridge this time, it wouldn’t cool down so easily.
She paused, then extended her hand to Glenn.
"I forgot to mention," Glenn suddenly said, as if just now remembering, but failing to hide a smirk in his eyes, "they’ve got guns."
The implication was clear. If she wanted his gun, she’d have to wrestle it away from him herself.
Fifteen minutes.
Not too long, but not too short either.
Flossie and Glenn sat on the same rock, one quietly eating her late-night snack, the other silently staring at the night sky. There was no conversation between them, but the atmosphere was not at all awkward, rather, surprisingly relaxed.
As the cold night wind gently blew, Flossie started losing her focus on the porridge, and started toying with her wrist out of boredom. At some point, she noticed something moving in front of her, causing her to furrow her brow in thought.
Even when eating a late-night snack, she maintained a slow, elegant pace, making hardly any sound, and demonstrated an exhilirating beauty.
"Heard you’ve been heartbroken?"
Breaking a blade of grass and fiddling with it, Flossie suddenly turned her head and asked the man sitting next to her.
Glenn’s face darkened slightly.
Seemingly finding it amusing, Flossie blinked, then squinted a bit, humorously asking, "Or, are you a gay?"
Their expressions stiffened for a moment, but then Glenn relaxed and became his usual lazy, elegant self. Like a cheetah lurking in the dark, the hint of a smile on his lips was dangerous yet alluring.
"What do you think?" Suddenly, Glenn leaned in close, almost putting his face in front of hers. His smile was beguiling and enigmatic. His slow, alluring voice could charm anyone, "Heartbroken, gay, or... something else?"
Seeing his handsome face up close, Flossie paused. The next moment, she casually moved aside, subtly increasing the distance between them, and nonchalantly said, "I don’t know."
She really didn’t know, but one thing she was certain of, he’s neither heartbroken nor gay.
These were very sensitive questions, and no matter how he pretended, he would’ve left some trace. But he denied everything with those deep, captivating eyes, not even bothering to hide anything aside from some of his mischievousness.
Flossie was just trying to lighten the mood and stir up some conversation. She wasn’t genuinely interested in uncovering the truth. But, before she could appropriately shift the topic, melodious music started playing from the darkness, and the pure tune immediately drew both their attention.
