Watching her series of actions, Becca Reyes pressed her lips together, seriously thought for a moment, then made up her mind resolutely.
She must practice her tree-climbing skills after she got back!
Damn it, the devil’s in the details.
She had always thought that Flossie Wright was merely better at shooting than her. After all, her regular scores didn’t indicate that Flossie was particularly brilliant, and beating her physical strength was a benchmark she couldn’t surpass in the short term.
But, the person who was primarily known for just one skill, almost never made a mistake in this drill, even suppressing them at every turn.
What was even worse...
She couldn’t even outclimb her!
"I’ll stay down here."
Looking up at Flossie, who had already found a hiding spot, Becca Reyes made her intentions clear with hand signals as Flossie gave her instructions in sign language.
With her tree-climbing skills, she’d be targeted by both the Red and Blue troops, hiding in the shadows, the moment she was two meters off the ground.
She had no intention of courting death.
Flossie didn’t insist, either. After carefully observing the situation, she explained the current situation to Becca using hand signals.
It seemed that three teams from the Red side had joined forces, having lost five members, with seven hidden in the bushes on the left. The Blue team had a total of eight people, with three already out, and the remaining concealed skillfully on the right.
In addition to giving a rough description, Flossie had also pointed out to Becca where each person was hiding.
Seeing Flossie’s methodical hand signals, Becca felt overwhelmed, focusing entirely on quickly and accurately remembering all the positions. Even after Flossie had reported every location, she was still a little dazed until she had mentally simulated and memorized each person’s place and had a rough outline in mind.
"Bang, bang, bang—"
After some time, the Red team, apparently in consensus, chose to retreat discreetly instead of continuing the stalemate. However, the Blue team was closely watching their every move, each rustling leaf catching their attention. Their guns, of course, never ceased firing, and a round of sudden gunfire wiped out, two fresh Red recruits in an instant.
Becca, hidden in a pile of grass under the tree, was just about to ask Flossie if they should help when she felt the gunfire receding. Soon after, a voice from the Blue team’s territory resounded—
"Fuck! It’s a sniper!"
Startled, Becca subconsciously glanced upwards, barely catching sight of Flossie, holding a gun and methodically eliminating people from the Blue team.
However, as soon as the Blue team realized there was a "sniper", they immediately hid away without showing their heads again, their pursuit of the Red team coming to an abrupt end. They were undoubtedly cursing in frustration.
There was no sniper earlier. Did the damn Red team actually have backup?!
Knowing the situation, Becca merely twitched a smile, quickly picked up her gun, and started moving quietly through the bushes until she found a tree that could shield her line of sight. Then, she lifted her gun and, one by one, started watching their hiding spots as per the directions Flossie had pointed out.
After Flossie fired two consecutive shots, the Blue troops, realizing something was wrong, promptly hid away, leaving no further opportunities to strike. However, Becca’s stealthy approach allowed her to clearly observe the remaining three Blue team locations. After confirming their positions, Becca suddenly narrowed her eyes and without hesitation aimed at the one closest to her.
"Bang, bang—"
In the calm night, the sound of the rifle was particularly loud. The startling sound almost scared the recovering Blue troops out of their wits. In the blink of an eye, a puff of blue smoke rose from the moonlit jungle, signaling another sacrifice.
It was dark, and the remaining two Blue troops quickly aimed at Becca’s direction without a second thought. Becca, however, didn’t stick around for a fight. After the first shot, she hid behind the tree again, chuckling as she glanced at Flossie in her hiding spot and playfully touched her nose.
As expected, two seconds later, the two Blue soldiers who had hastily peeked out to attack her had been taken out by Flossie, one bullet each.
Clean and swift, utterly thrilling!
Of course, the gunfire soon ceased.
"Damn, whoever you are, show yourself!"
All at once, the enraged voices of the Blue troops echoed as they aggressively headed toward Becca’s location.
This kind of situation was quite common in practices. Every soldier was unwilling to accept that they had been killed under unclear circumstances, especially when facing an elusive sniper. The frustration clawed at their hearts, making them uncomfortable. Becca and Flossie had encountered such noise from ’dead people’ before.
As for Becca, she had become accustomed to ’sneaking away’ in such situations.
However, this time she’d only faltered back for a couple of meters when she was blocked by an abrupt figure—
"Becca Reyes?!"
The moment she turned around, the shadow suddenly emerged before her eyes. After taking a closer look at the person in front of her, Becca recognized the sudden appearance.
Yes, she remembered this person...
The one who often competed with Flossie, but was always overlooked by her—the ostensibly helpless person known as a comrade from the new recruit company, Jocelyn Carrington.
Becca was certain that Jocelyn hadn’t been by the brook earlier and, assuming she’d arrived now because the Blue side had ’killed’ her during the retreat, she adjusted her thoughts accordingly.
As her consciousness returned, Becca saw Jocelyn’s hand abruptly land on her shoulder, the urgent question spilling from her lips, "Was that Flossie who just fired?"
Becca’s mouth twitched slightly— what else could she say...
