While dealing with the new driver, Flossie Wright casually snagged the car keys from him. When it was time to leave, she tossed the keys to Glenn Hutchinson, raising an eyebrow and asking.
"You can’t go back now."
Glenn casually caught the keys she tossed mid-air and went straight to the driver’s seat.
Rolling her eyes, Flossie, cognizant of his meaning, didn’t linger among the many onlookers and directly hopped into the passenger seat after opening the door.
Now that the people here were arrested, they couldn’t overlook the dude from Wright Family doing shady things. The police, presumably, were already inside the Wright home with a search warrant. If she returned now, not only would she be dragged to the bureau, but she would also face severe criticism from Regan Wright and Merry Otiz. Even if she had the time, she didn’t have the patience. She figured it would be better to stay away.
Thus, Flossie, with no specific destination, handed control over to Glenn and decided to nap in the car.
However, when she woke up from her brief slumber, she wasn’t greeted by their arrival at a destination, but by a call from Rowdy Brightwill.
"What’s up?"
Lifting a finger to receive the call, Flossie moved the phone to her ear and got straight to the point without any pleasantries.
Stunned by her brisk approach, Rowdy hesitated before quietly asking, "Where are you right now?"
"In the car."
After a brief glance around outside the car, Flossie answered succinctly.
After a pause, Rowdy’s voice became hesitant, "Just you?"
After glancing at the driver next to her, Flossie stated without hiding anything, "And Glenn Hutchinson."
Rowdy was gnashing his teeth over the phone.
He had just heard about Flossie and Glenn assisting the police. The news of "Glenn Hutchinson," a sensitive figure, made him call Flossie instantly, and he wasn’t expecting them to be together.
Damn, this is infuriating!
"You know, he’s a father." Rowdy’s voice immediately became very serious and he advised in a gravely concerned tone, "Be careful, don’t be deceived by his sweet words."
"... Is there anything else?"
Flossie sounded indifferent, as if she was about to hang up any moment.
"Yes!" After a light cough, Rowdy was quick to shrug off the previous topic, his conversation, however, remained serious, "Both of you should be careful. I think you’re both being watched. Avoid remote hotels and don’t go sightseeing or to parks and amusement parks for fun ... Also, tell me where you are, I’ll come to you."
After a bunch of admonitions, Rowdy was still worried and added one more line smoothly.
However, his entire speech was ignored by Flossie. She squinted and asked, "How do you know we’re being watched?"
"Well... " Rowdy hesitated, his voice suppressed as if communicating with someone else. After a pause, he continued, "Do you remember Patrick Morrison, your college senior who pursued you? They are investigating the people you were in contact with. I couldn’t find out the exact details but he asked me to warn you."
Not knowing the full details himself, truly, Rowdy was just the messenger.
Having been housebound for a few days, his former comrades found him. They, including Patrick Morrison, were planning to use him as a way to contact the Wright Family and investigate. But before they could execute their plan, they heard news of Glenn and Flossie helping the police.
The military’s intelligence network ran deep and they promptly learned of some movement. If their information was accurate, the target of the operation could be Glenn or Flossie, potentially both if they have enough personnel.
Rowdy didn’t have access to many secrets nor did he know the exact mission details. He didn’t fully intend to participate, but after discussions with his comrades like Patrick, he relayed this uncertain news to Flossie, to mentally prepare her and Glenn in case something unexpected occurred.
As Rowdy’s words echoed in her ears, Flossie instinctively looked at Glenn. Obviously, he had heard their conversation too and gave her an acknowledging glance from the corner of his eye.
Pausing for a moment, Flossie asked, "Why are you two together?"
"That’s a long story... " Rowdy easily brushed off the question, showing no interest in explaining, "Where are you guys? I’m coming over."
Flossie furrowed her brows. She really didn’t know where they were headed.
Meanwhile, Glenn, who was driving, reached out and took her phone. He brought it to his ear and said in a clear, steady voice.
"My place."
