While walking on the mountain road, they broke out in a heavy sweat, but as soon as they stopped, the cool breeze sweeping over the mountaintop penetrated everywhere, instantly turning their limbs and spines ice-cold.
Breaking free from Glenn Hutchinson’s grasp, Flossie Wright raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead corner, and raised her eyes to look down the mountain.
Below lay a desolate valley, and on the surrounding cliff slopes, dense trees grew, all now covered by a vast expanse of snow.
Between heaven and earth, only the sky’s gray and the ground’s white prevailed, the two colors merging into a magnificent scene, stirring an indescribable sense of grandeur in one’s heart.
"Continue?"
With her hands in her pockets, Flossie Wright looked around with a slightly relaxed tone in her voice.
The environment can affect one’s mood.
The majestic scenery, the pure nature, the fresh air—Flossie Wright didn’t bother about anything else.
His gaze fixed on her, Glenn Hutchinson replied.
If they really did continue, Flossie Wright would certainly insist on keeping up, but given her current strength, they would probably not get back until after dark.
"Then," pausing briefly, Flossie Wright arched her eyebrows, "go back?"
Thinking of going back as soon as they arrived?
With a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth, Glenn Hutchinson avoided her question and asked, "Hungry?"
Flossie Wright shrugged.
She hadn’t eaten lunch when Hutchinson brought her out, and with the physical exertion on the way, it would be strange if she weren’t hungry.
"Wait here,"
After glancing at her, Glenn Hutchinson gave a cool order and then walked towards the deeper parts of the trees.
Just after two steps, Glenn Hutchinson caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye and his expression darkened unexpectedly.
"I told you to wait,"
Hutchinson stopped in his tracks, staring at Flossie Wright who was walking into the distance, his tone slightly harsh yet mixed with a touch of helplessness.
"I’m just looking around,"
Hearing his voice, Flossie Wright turned to look at him and spread her hands.
"Don’t," commanded Glenn Hutchinson sternly.
Flossie Wright frowned, puzzled.
Just stay here?
Turn into an icicle?
"Make a fire,"
Throwing an object over to her, Glenn Hutchinson ordered decisively.
Flossie Wright instinctively caught it.
Turning her hand over, a box of matches lay in her palm.
Looking up, Flossie Wright searched for traces of Glenn Hutchinson, and realized that in just the blink of an eye, he had already made his way into the dense jungle.
The unspoiled snowfield still bore a series of footprints.
Bush branches gently swayed, with the snow atop them slowly drifting down, proving someone had just passed through.
Flossie Wright paused briefly, tossing the matchbox in her hand.
She didn’t linger for long.
It was too cold, and with the temperature dropping, she needed to start a fire to warm up.
Fortunately, where there were trees, there was never a shortage of firewood.
It took some time to find dry wood.
The speed of lighting the fire, however, was much quicker.
Probably about half an hour later, Flossie Wright felt warm throughout her body and then heard the faint sound of footsteps, accompanied by the subtle snaps of branches being broken.
Adding two sticks to the campfire, Flossie Wright turned her head toward the direction of the sounds.
Before long, she saw the familiar corner of a garment.
The color of the military training uniform.
Following it, a figure emerged from the thicket—it was the silhouette she knew all too well.
