Hesitating for a brief moment, Stuart Weston suddenly seemed to release a held breath, taking a few quiet steps closer to Calvin Ramos, stuttering, "Bro, I’ve got something to say..."
"You want to pursue her?"
Calvin Ramos, glancing down at him, casually raises an eyebrow, and in a blink of an eye, pins down exactly what Stuart had been feeling.
"You knew?"
Stuart was taken aback but it was clear that his secret was accurately identified by Calvin.
Calvin responds, though he declines to add anything more.
Since serving in the same military division, Calvin had been with Stuart and over time, had come to understand an assortment of Stuart’s characteristics.
Although Stuart could be irksome at times, he definitely exhibited more respect in Becca Reyes’s presence. Furthermore, Stuart was quite savvy and adept at reading other’s thoughts. At the very least, he was well-liked among the male soldiers.
In contrast, Stuart showed signs of weakness in front of both Becca and Flossie, with Flossie having disciplined him severely in the past, makes it understandable. However, Becca’s military skills were not as good as his, so he felt less need to dance around her.
Moreover, whenever he was around Becca, his tiresome behavior would provoke her anger but he would not retaliate, even when he was disciplined.
No matter how you look at it, he was acting strange.
Although Calvin Ramos did not seemingly pay attention to these things, he was both highly intelligent and emotionally perceptive, enough to read between the lines.
Stuart stuttered again.
Even though he had a thick skin, pursuing his friend’s girl... well, it was awkward.
"You go for it," Calvin told him, looking at him with a very serious gaze. Moonlight danced in his eyes, making him appear even more aloof, "It’ll save me a trouble."
"You..." Hearing Calvin’s words, a mix of emotions flooded Stuart Weston’s thoughts. He felt a pang in his heart, furrowing his brows in concern, and finally sighing, "You know, sometimes you seem very friendly and approachable, but in certain aspects, you appear colder than anyone else."
This is the first time Stuart made a direct assessment about Calvin.
And it was a genuine one.
This time, Calvin Ramos didn’t say a word.
The air between them seemed to fall into silence, soon filled with echoes of wind and gunfire. The biting cold and humid air added a layer of heaviness to the atmosphere.
By the time Flossie and Becca made it to the battle location, the fighting had already been winding to a close.
The battlefield was near a brook in Pingtan, with a relatively broad view. Some of the ’eliminated’ players were sitting by the brook, the red and blue teams glared at each other from either side, seemingly with deep hatred.
The survivors were probably hiding on both sides of the brook, with occasional gunfire for probing, considering whether to attack or defend. As neither side had withdrawn, their only choice was to stick it out in stalemate.
"We can’t see clearly from here."
Becca crouched at a hidden location, peering around, but other than the people on both sides of the brook, she couldn’t get a clear view of the opposing teams.
Flossie gave an indifferent glance at her. "Climb a tree."
From a high vantage point, one had a broader view. This was common sense, and for a sniper, the choice was often to hide high up. After all, from above, one could see the target more clearly and spot emerging threats faster.
After finishing her sentence, Flossie Wright grabs a branch from a nearby tall tree and swiftly ascends. She then quickly disappears into the thick foliage and branches.
