"Was it you who messed with the Mercenary Corps?" Flossie Wright asked coldly, her eyebrows knitted tightly together.
The words fell, silent.
However, no response came.
Flossie Wright frowned more deeply.
After a long moment, Perry Reed on the other end of the phone finally spoke slowly, "Decided to switch on your phone?"
Flossie Wright’s eyelids twitched.
She’d completely forgotten about the trick she played on him yesterday!
Her hand gripping the phone tightened as Flossie Wright said coldly, "Answer me first."
"Give me an explanation first," Perry Reed replied just as icily.
"Perry Reed!" Flossie Wright shouted emphatically.
"Erina Taylor!"
Perry Reed’s voice was crystal clear but laced with bone-chilling coldness.
"I understand."
Taking a deep breath, Flossie Wright subdued the light in her eyes, ready to hang up the phone.
She never wanted Perry Reed to interfere in her affairs.
Especially not in Eastlandia.
It had been that way with Mia Lawson’s case, and now, it was the same with the affair concerning the Mercenary Corps.
If those fourteen men were indeed Perry Reed’s doing, then any single slip could lead the Eastlandia police straight to him, and his organization could very well end up on the Eastlandia police’s blacklist.
This was not what Flossie Wright had hoped for.
They had an agreement, to never take on missions in Eastlandia nor carry out any missions there; that was one of their mutual understandings.
Just as she moved the phone away, she heard Perry Reed’s subdued, displeased voice from the other end.
Her action to release the phone paused slightly as Flossie Wright waited for Perry Reed to continue talking.
"It was me."
Perry Reed admitted decisively, his tone calm and steady.
Not at all surprised, Flossie Wright’s eyebrow rose as she prepared to hang up again.
She was at a loss with Perry Reed.
Whatever Perry Reed wanted to do, she couldn’t stop him; she didn’t have the position to do so.
They respected each other, yet, they wouldn’t completely yield to one another.
"Erina Taylor."
Her finger had not yet pressed down when Perry Reed’s deep voice floated through the speaker at maximum volume, causing her to hesitate.
Her eyes flickered slightly, Flossie Wright hesitated for a moment, then simply sat down in the chair and asked indifferently, "Is there anything else?"
"My chance."
Word by word, slowly, the rich voice settled in her ears.
He was demanding, not asking.
Flossie Wright understood what he meant.
So, with a glance at the table, she asked in a deep voice, "What kind of chance do you want?"
"You take a three-day leave," Perry Reed negotiated directly.
"I’m not going out."
"I have training."
"That reason is invalid."
"I don’t want to see you," Flossie Wright replied, frowning.
"..." That’s direct enough!
After a pause, Perry Reed simply replied, "Fine."
Hearing that he was not going on, Flossie Wright massaged her temples and continued to negotiate, "You can choose something else."
"A call once a week," Perry Reed cut to the chase.
"I’m busy," Flossie Wright refused.
"Ten days."
"Half a month."
"..." Flossie Wright found herself momentarily at a loss for words.
"One month," Perry Reed’s voice sounded somewhat helpless.
"Deal," Flossie Wright agreed without hesitation.
