"Janice Wood attempted suicide."
Rowdy Brightwill’s voice was steady, even though it carried a clear worry. However, no particular rush of confusion was revealed.
Ever since Winsley Scott left, Rowdy had been paying close attention to Janice Wood. He had been the mastermind behind Winsley’s pursuit of Janice, so nobody knew Winsley’s feelings towards Janice better than him. Now that his brother has left, it was his duty to look after Janice on Winsley’s behalf.
However, he did not expect such a thing to occur with Janice during his absence.
He had considered the prospect of Janice’s emotional problems. During that period, each of them had emotional disturbances. After all, what they had left behind was not an inconsequential existence, but a brother who shared suffering and weariness with them. They were understandably immersed in low spirits. However, regardless of their mood, they all knew that the matter would pass, and they would not lose much more over it.
Subconsciously, Rowdy thought that Janice, like them, would weather the storm. It was just a period of depression. Under no circumstance had he anticipated that Janice would commit such an act of self-destruction.
"Is she dead?"
Flossie Wright fell silent for a moment before asking directly.
Just like Rowdy, Flossie was surprised by Janice’s actions. However, since the incident had already occurred, instead of pondering over the reasons behind Janice’s actions, she decided it would be better to inquire about Janice’s current situation first.
Although, from the tone of Rowdy’s voice, it seemed likely that Janice’s life was not in danger.
Facing the calm Flossie, Rowdy rubbed his nose uneasily, answering her instinctively. Inside, he was in turmoil.
He knew that Flossie had a good relationship with Janice. Even when he had received the news, his reaction was overwhelming, and only after calming down for a little while, did he remember to inform Flossie over the phone.
He knew Flossie was not indifferent to Janice’s condition, but her calmness amid the unexpected events made him anxious. Oddly enough, he felt that Flossie was drifting further and further away from him, unreachable despite his best efforts.
Furrowing her brows in thought, Flossie spoke calmly, "I understand."
"So you..."
Hesitatingly, Rowdy opened his mouth to ask if she was coming back tomorrow. Just as his words began to leave his lips, he heard the click of a phone hanging up.
His heart felt as if it had been flicked, and he looked disappointedly at the blank phone screen. His heart, already melancholic, seemed to be further shrouded in a mist, weighing heavily and refusing to calm down.
"Are you going back?"
After hanging up, Patrick Morrison, who was in the same car as Rowdy, leaned over with a worried look. He had merely heard two phone calls, and the specific details were unclear. Still, he faintly knew that one of Rowdy’s friends had attempted suicide. He knew Rowdy was still on vacation, but it seemed he might not stay here much longer.
Frowning thoughtfully for a while, Rowdy eventually nodded.
Patrick Morrison patted Rowdy on the shoulder and comforted, "Let go a bit, it’s okay as long as she’s alive."
"Mm-hmm." After responding, Rowdy fell into silence. He leaned back into his chair, his brows furrowed deeper and deeper. The somber aura enveloping him became increasingly more noticeable. Patrick was quite concerned, but it took a long time for Rowdy to suddenly turn to him and ask, "Did you ever pursue Flossie?"
