This night was far from peaceful.
Although trainees had been arriving continuously, the atmosphere within the campsite grew more tense as night fell.
The later it got, the more dangerous it became.
Watching the trainees arrive one by one, and seeing the numbers dwindle, Austin Shepherd and the others couldn’t fully relax.
Any accident could lead to the failure of this training.
By eleven o’clock at night, only one was missing.
Yet, the tense atmosphere did not cease because of this.
Austin Shepherd, Nathan Foster, Drake Easton, and Rowdy Brightwill, along with Nancy Phillips who had come over to check on the situation, stood outside the campsite in the cold wind.
At this time of year, the nights were already chilly, but the temperature in the jungle typically dropped several degrees, so the cold wind was bone-chilling and made them shiver uncontrollably.
"Should we send someone to search now?"
Rowdy Brightwill stuffed his hands into his pockets and spoke through a white, frostbitten face in the dark night.
Drake Easton glanced at his watch, his expression somewhat grave, "We’re still forty minutes shy."
Logically, the deadline wasn’t until midnight.
The jungle was not like other places.
The danger was extremely high.
A single misstep could be fatal.
Initially, when Flossie Wright hadn’t returned, they were merely worried she would be eliminated from the training, not overly concerned about her personal safety. But now it was different; the last remaining person could be in danger at any moment in the jungle.
"You’re the chief instructor, you decide."
Nancy Phillips turned to Austin Shepherd.
All the female soldiers had arrived, and the only one left was a male soldier.
If it had been a female soldier, she might have had a chance to speak up, but since it was a male, she could only wait on the side for a decision to be made and then carry it out.
In an instant, all four pairs of eyes were fixed on Austin Shepherd.
That single word seemed to be squeezed out through clenched teeth.
Austin Shepherd’s aura carried an undeniable heaviness.
With a human life in his hands, how could he not be heavy-hearted?
Taking a deep breath, Austin Shepherd made up his mind and immediately ordered, "Nancy Phillips, you wait here and contact us immediately via radio if there’s any news. I, Nathan, Drake, and Rowdy will lead four teams to search the jungle. Keep in contact at all times if you find anything."
"Okay," Rowdy Brightwill said.
"Got it," Nathan Foster responded promptly.
Drake Easton’s face was stern, while Nancy Phillips simply nodded her head.
There were no objections to his plan.
They swung into action immediately.
To be on the safe side, they had numerous people at the campsite, forming a specialized Rescue Forces.
The emergency assembly whistle soon echoed throughout the campsite.
The trainees who were capable of moving, upon learning the situation, swarmed out.
They volunteered to join the search teams.
Drake Easton, with a stern face, kicked out those who were injured, ultimately leaving twenty people.
Among them, was Flossie Wright.
The number was somewhat large.
After some thought, Austin Shepherd divided them into four more groups, led by Flossie Wright, Sandy Cruz, and two veterans.
They quickly formed into eight groups, with new and veteran soldiers mixed, each one issued with a flashlight.
In preparation for such an eventuality, Austin Shepherd and the others had made thorough arrangements beforehand.
Soon after, Austin Shepherd also reached out to the Aerial Rescue Forces, and both ground and air teams began their search and rescue operations.
All through the night.
