At first, there were quite a few footprints on the snowfield, coming and going.
But in the end, Flossie Wright only saw a single line of footprints.
Left by the same person, the snow was somewhat deep, only leading away, without a return.
As she was about to reach the spot Glenn Hutchinson pointed out, Flossie Wright’s steps slowed considerably. Her body felt much lighter after the exercise, yet her pace slowed, making each step in the snow appear somewhat heavy.
Then, Flossie Wright saw Rowdy Brightwill.
At the moment she inadvertently raised the flashlight, Flossie glimpsed a familiar figure in the light. Her wrist suddenly steadied, and the flashlight beam fell upon Rowdy Brightwill.
Rowdy Brightwill stood quietly in front of the grave, weakly turning his head to look over.
The light was so bright that he squinted instinctively, and when the light moved away, his sight instantly dimmed, less clear than before, but the outline he faintly saw allowed him to recognize the person’s identity.
"Why did you come."
Rowdy Brightwill turned around, looking at Flossie Wright in her black windbreaker.
The windbreaker was obviously two sizes too large for her, the top button was unfastened, revealing the hospital gown she wore underneath.
The cold wind blew directly, and Rowdy Brightwill thought it felt a bit chilly.
"Just to take a look."
Flossie Wright walked slowly over, calmly replying.
She approached Rowdy Brightwill’s side, stopping in front of the grave. The flashlight in her hand briefly scanned over the tombstone, enough for her to see the photograph in military uniform placed on it, but she never shone the flashlight on the tombstone again.
"It’s my fault." Rowdy Brightwill lowered his gaze slightly, looking at the photo on the tombstone in the dark, his voice was sad and remorseful, "Originally, it should have been me."
Flossie Wright crouched down, leaned against the tombstone, and sat down beside it, she said coolly, "No one forced her."
On the way, Glenn Hutchinson had explained the situation in detail.
Ultimately, it was Belinda Nichols’ own choice.
She didn’t tell anyone; on the last night Belinda accompanied her, when she was sleeping fitfully, Belinda said something, whether it was clear or sleep-talking.

But she heard it very clearly.
This person couldn’t bear to leave her, and neither could she bear to leave him.
But now, it is they who cannot bear to leave her.
"Give me a drink." Flossie Wright raised her right hand toward Rowdy Brightwill, aiming for the half-drunk bottle of liquor in his hand.
Rowdy Brightwill hesitated for a moment, then handed the liquor to her.
Flossie Wright took a big swig.
The alcohol was burning hot, as if it could set her throat aflame.
Rowdy Brightwill glanced at her, and finally sat down beside Flossie, separated by the photograph on the tombstone.
The weather was very cold, cold enough to make hands and feet feel numb, but the liquor burned as it filled their stomachs. The alcohol might numb the nerves, yet both felt increasingly clear-headed.
"On the day of her funeral, I saw her parents, they were very good people," Rowdy Brightwill took a sip of liquor, his eyes reddened, hot tears slipped from the corners, he covered with his palm yet couldn’t hide the choking voice, "They did not blame me at all. They cried a lot but still thanked everyone who attended."
Flossie Wright took the liquor from his hand, sipped gloomily, "Did all of you go?"
"You had a fever then."
"Were there many people?"
"Did you cry?" Flossie Wright tilted her head slightly, looking in the dark at Rowdy Brightwill’s profile.
