The Marine Corps has a unique "special forces" unit - the amphibious reconnaissance team, also known as the "Frogmen". The cooking class Flossie Wright belonged to was serving this team, and also the neighboring amphibious king flowers.
This cooking class looks after approximately two hundred people from about two companies. There are ten members in the class, which would have been enough, but adding in the likes of Glenn Hutchinson and new recruits selected into the Cameron Bailey brigade, the number was almost five hundred.
So, except for the relatively relaxed breakfast, the rest of the time nearing mealtime, all members of the cooking class were busy spinning in circles. Even Flossie Wright and Yvonne Watson, who were in charge of procurement, and Xiao Yan and Becca Reyes who were busy feeding pigs, were all brought in to help. By the time the meals were ready, there were hardly any of them left standing.
"Hey, you two newcomers," before they could catch their breath, a fat cook got up leaning on the chair and pointed to Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes who had just taken a break, and ordered directly, "after they finish eating, you two collect the bowls and wash them clean."
Becca Reyes was already upset about feeding the pigs, and getting this news after working for so long without a break, her face immediately turned cold, "That’s not within our scope of responsibility, is it?"
"What do you mean ’not’?" the fat cook raised his voice abruptly and roared at them, "You are both new recruits; new recruits have to wash dishes! If you two don’t finish washing today, don’t think about eating!"
Bullying rookies is common in the forces, even in the cooking class, and there’s no exception. Any miscellaneous tasks are basically done by new recruits.
Every new recruit has to go through this, it’s an unwritten rule.
"Fine, we’ll wash!" Becca Reyes clenched her teeth and responded, wiping the sweat on her forehead with her sleeve. But out of corner of her eye, she saw Yvonne Watson gradually approaching the door, she raised her eyebrow, and looked at her, playfully, "Comrade, aren’t you going to help?"
"I," Yvonne Watson paused awkwardly, her eyes carefully scanned over Flossie Wright before turning back, "I have something to do later."
"Oh, I won’t hold you back then." Becca Reyes didn’t make things difficult for her, but the corners of her mouth curled up in a mock smile.
She played her part well, always nice to everyone, but when it came to dealing with actual work, she always escaped faster than anyone else. If Becca hadn’t guessed wrong, Yvonne Watson hasn’t been as warm to Flossie Wright since the incident with the nurse was exposed. Yvonne always kept herself busy and communication was difficult.
Of course, Yvonne Watson, accustomed to this style of work, didn’t notice anything. Having heard that Becca Reyes let her go, she quickly left, as if she was afraid Becca Reyes would force her to wash dishes if she was a second slower.
After what happened in the morning, Flossie knew Yvonne’s nature quite well. She wasn’t surprised when Yvonne behaved like this, turning to look at Becca Reyes with a nonchalant expression, she casually grabbed a rag and walked towards the canteen.
Watching her back, Becca Reyes shrugged, selected a relatively clean rag, and followed her to the canteen.
However, as soon as they came from the back door to the canteen, the two froze at the entrance.
In the large canteen, hundreds of people gathered together, men and women each inhabiting a corner. The majority were muddied from head to toe. With mud even on their faces, they were carrying food to their mouths as though they couldn’t wait to shove the plates in too. The boisterous male soldiers even grabbed food directly with their hands.
