After looking for a good while, Flossie Wright finally discerned her current location.
"Put me down."
She rubbed her temples and said in a low voice.
She was not yet fully awake.
But, it was time for her to take action.
Glenn Hutchinson stopped in his tracks, tilted his head to look at Flossie Wright a few times, and ultimately complied with her request, setting her down.
She landed steadily.
Flossie Wright moved her ankles.
"What time is it?"
She tilted the brim of her hat slightly and took a step forward, asking Glenn Hutchinson.
With a blast of the cold wind, she became completely alert.
"Not yet seven."
Glancing at his watch, Glenn Hutchinson replied indifferently.
He turned to the side, looking at Flossie Wright.
The cold wind swept through, blowing up the hem of the coat on her shoulder, tracing a turbulent arc in the air.
In a moment of distraction, the coat slipped off her shoulder.
Blown fiercely backward.
Still somewhat drowsy, Flossie Wright’s reflexes kicked in at the moment her coat slipped; she quickly reached back, caught the collar with ease, and hoisted it back onto her shoulder.
"At the crossroads ahead, I’ll go left, and you go right," she said slowly, turning her head, her hair fluttering in the wind below the brim of her hat, her eyebrows raised, "How about that?"
"Not so good." Glenn Hutchinson’s expression was none too pleased.
He had seen people burn bridges after crossing. But never had he seen someone start dismantling the bridge before even crossing it, using him as a stepping stone.
"That’s settled then."
Ignoring his response, Flossie Wright waved her left hand at him; her coat flew towards Glenn Hutchinson.
Glenn Hutchinson caught it with a swift hand.
Her cool voice fell.
Flossie Wright walked straight ahead.
After only two steps, her wrist was seized.
Glenn Hutchinson moved behind her silently, the grip on her wrist as firm as ever, leaving her no chance to break free.
"In such a hurry to go?"
His voice, full of magnetism, reached her ears.
Halting her steps, Flossie Wright turned to find Glenn Hutchinson’s face close to hers, her eyes meeting his suddenly, sending a chill through her gaze.
Flossie Wright asked nonchalantly.
A faint smile tugging at his lips, Glenn Hutchinson let go of her hand and spoke deliberately, "Turn around."
Having said that, he didn’t wait for Flossie’s reaction, but began to put on his coat leisurely.
He donned the coat as slowly as he had removed it, beginning to button up.
After a pause, Flossie Wright turned deliberately to face Glenn Hutchinson, who was methodically dressing.
It just felt, somehow, that the temperature had dropped several degrees.
Two minutes later, Glenn Hutchinson had finished buttoning up.
"Anything else?"
Seeing he was dressed, Flossie Wright didn’t hesitate and asked directly.
Staying there for even a short while had made her fingers cold to the bone, causing her to move them unconsciously.
Glenn Hutchinson’s tone was certain.
"Out with it."
Flossie Wright’s reply was succinct.
Glenn Hutchinson’s gaze shifted to her fingers, his expression flickering with a touch of helplessness, then he bent down, forcibly holding her hands in his.
"In the future..."
His low voice reached her ears, interrupting Flossie Wright’s intention to pull her hands away.
Glenn Hutchinson lowered his eyes slightly, his gaze carrying a bit more seriousness, he stated clearly and firmly, "If there’s anything about carrying you or the like, don’t bother looking for excuses again."
