If no one noticed, then only a few people would know he really existed.
Once completely replaced, not many would reminisce about him. He could vanish without a trace, even leading people to wonder if he had ever truly existed.
But with such a clear answer, Becca Reyes found herself unable to respond.
Knock. Knock.
The hospital room door was knocked on.
Both of their attention was drawn to it.
Before anyone could respond, Flossie Wright pushed the door open and walked in from outside.
Becca Reyes lifted her eyes in surprise and called out to her unconsciously.
"Not welcome?"
Having entered, Flossie Wright asked in return as she casually closed the door behind her.
Becca Reyes was at a loss for words.
Stuart Weston’s mood was low. He glanced at Flossie Wright, not even mustering the energy to greet her.
His focus had previously been on Becca Reyes, and he hadn’t paid much attention to anything else. But now, with his concentration broken, he could feel that the anaesthetic had worn off, and the throbbing pain from the bruises and wounds started to spread, causing him to wince and grimace in an instant.
"You, step out for a bit."
Approaching, Flossie Wright looked at Becca Reyes and spoke in an indifferent tone.
Tilting her head slightly, Becca Reyes pointed at herself, as if to confirm that Flossie Wright was addressing her.
"Mhm." Flossie nodded.
After a moment of thought, Becca Reyes reluctantly agreed.
She trusted Flossie Wright unconditionally, and basically always heeded her words.
Moreover, accustomed to the fact that probing questions never yielded answers, Becca Reyes had given up on thoroughly questioning Flossie Wright.
After agreeing, Becca Reyes quickly stepped out the door, conveniently avoiding Stuart Weston’s awkward inquiry.
It was only after the hospital room door had been shut did Flossie Wright approach the bedside, looking down from above at Stuart Weston, who laid on the hospital bed.
The injuries seemed severe. Wherever visible, bandages were applied, and the once rather handsome face was now swollen and bruised. From head to toe, he appeared utterly disheveled, one could only wonder how fiercely he had been beaten.
After a brief examination, Flossie Wright coldly uttered her assessment.
Feeling overtly belittled, Stuart Weston’s anger flared up, and he called out indignantly, his eyes full of warning.
Before he could puff himself up, the sweeping pain deprived him of the energy to explode, and he turned his focus to the pain.
"What’s the situation?"
With one hand in her pocket, Flossie Wright looked indifferently at him and asked directly.
Having been away from the Dormitory for a while and taking a tour around Base, even seeing Daniel Ramos, Flossie Wright came here mainly to inquire about Stuart Weston’s condition.
Though, she didn’t really have much interest in the matter.
"What situation?" Stuart Weston feigned ignorance.
Issuing a challenge only to be beaten down to the ground, unable to even get back up, all excuses aside, was embarrassing – and while Stuart Weston’s dignity might not be worth much, it wasn’t bad to keep it intact.
Right after he responded, Flossie Wright’s gaze turned a few degrees colder, her eyes flickering with an almost imperceptible threat.
"Alright, alright, I’ll talk, okay?"
After less than three seconds of standoff, Stuart Weston immediately caved.
His interactions with Flossie Wright hadn’t been too frequent, but they had their secret communications. After all, she was the only person supporting his attempt to take Becca Reyes away from Calvin Ramos, and he had to acknowledge that favour.
What needed to be said, he would say.
"It’s not really a big deal, just that he’s been very irritating lately. I won’t go into specifics, but let’s just say I started arguing with him alone. At first, he didn’t bother with me, but after I threw down the gauntlet... Ah well, I didn’t expect him to be so vicious with his strikes."
After muttering his explanation, Stuart Weston pursed his lips, his expression somewhat inexplicably perplexed.
Stuart Weston couldn’t understand why Calvin Ramos had changed so much. In the past, he would try to avoid conflict as much as possible, and even if he resorted to a scuffle, it was only defensively, rarely ever initiating aggression towards others.
The other party truly annoyed him.
But even so, he wouldn’t be so brutal.
"Oh." After mulling over it, Flossie Wright nodded thoughtfully, paused, and then asked, "Has he been like this all the time recently?"
"Pretty much."
Stuart Weston responded irritably.
He didn’t feel like bringing up Calvin Ramos right now; just the thought made him feel extremely embarrassed.
"He hasn’t been normal at any point?" Flossie Wright probed further.
"Yeah, there was," Stuart Weston replied right away, "a couple of nights ago, he went out and even covered me with a blanket when he came back."
Flossie Wright regarded him closely.
Stuart Weston felt uncomfortable under her scrutiny, his eyes flickering involuntarily, and he demanded irritably, "What’s with that look?!"
What the hell!
That way of looking at him made it seem like he had some indecent relationship with Calvin Ramos!
"Are you sure you remember correctly?" Flossie Wright’s gaze softened, she raised her eyebrows and inquired.
"Of course!"
Stuart Weston declared as a matter of course.
After a moment’s thought, as if wanting to confirm something, Flossie Wright asked again, "You were asleep, how would you know?"
"You think I’ve been practicing these few months for nothing? The moment he touched me, I woke up!" Stuart couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
"Eh," Flossie Wright raised an eyebrow with a smile in her eyes, "does it hurt?"
"..." Stuart, who had just been heatedly emotional, was brought back to reality by her question, his face immediately contorted in pain as he clenched his teeth and said, "It hurts!"
Squinting her eyes, Flossie Wright smiled, "Then keep hurting."
Stuart Weston was taken aback, at a loss for words.
What was that for?!
Was she digging at his sore spot on purpose?
This woman was really damn infuriating!
Meanwhile—
Becca Reyes, who had been eavesdropping outside the door the whole time, finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Luckily, he was there.
