Because, when the body is exhausted to its limit, one can avoid thinking about other things.
At such a tense moment, the brigadier’s command came down, stating that they should each hold a New Year’s party in their camp. With this mission upon them, it brought some respite to the new recruits’ training, and the new soldiers could finally catch their breath.
"Are we, the cooking class, also expected to put up a show?"
At the cooking class’s regular meeting, Commander Lin had just announced this when Xiao Yan leaped up from his mat, showing an exaggerated surprise and resistance.
Becca Reyes swept him a baffled glance, while picking up the mat he’d knocked over, looking at him as if he was mad, "What’s the matter?"
Unexpectedly, Xiao Yan kicked the mat away, asking angrily, "Winsley Scott and his people have only just passed, what on earth is the brigadier thinking, does he want us to celebrate universally?!"
Originally, it was an extremely irritated question, but after it was asked, the entire class fell silent.
They all remembered what happened; they remembered all the soldiers they had seen who sacrificed themselves.
Yet, no one would break the brigade’s rules for the sacrifice of a few individuals; it didn’t reach the level which thousands of people collectively grieve.
Yvonne Watson sat cautiously on the side, not too keen to join in this topic. In reality, she couldn’t understand why so many people were still thinking about this. Sacrifice was indeed great, but...
Weren’t they all prepared for sacrifices?
Yvonne Watson had a strong impression of the soldier called Winsley Scott. She was even moved when she attended his funeral, but it didn’t mean she, a mere outsider in human relationships, should devote all her thoughts to Winsley Scott and live for him.
That idea was too unrealistic.
Everybody has their own life. Even if a loved one dies, it doesn’t stop one’s own road to life because you can’t accompany them to death.
The other soldiers fell silent, Neal Thompson was somewhat annoyed about bringing this up again, while Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes just glanced at each other, then withdrew their gazes.
"That matter has already passed." After a moment of silence, Commander Lin warned Xiao Yan, his tone suddenly became stern, "Pick up the mat, sit down!"
Xiao Yan glared defiantly, hinting at wanting to confront Commander Lin. But Commander Lin’s gaze was too stern, he lost the courage to maintain eye contact after just ten seconds. Pouting, he reluctantly picked up the mat and sat down, not uttering another word.
"Tomorrow morning, everyone must give me a performance plan," Commander Lin continued with his idea. He swiftly concluded, but after a pause, he gave Flossie Wright a cold glance, "Except for Flossie Wright, everyone must participate in the performance."
After he finished, he did not wait for others to ask questions. He stood up, picked up his mat and said, "Dismissed!"
However, he should not have said those words at the end, because it stirred everyone’s curiosity. Almost everyone at the meeting looked at Flossie Wright when he left, suspecting that she had taken a shortcut to avoid participating in such a program.
There are fewer people in their cooking class, and they fully participate in any group events. Only the commander was allowed any exceptions. Flossie Wright, being a new recruit who joined not long ago, how could she enjoy special privileges?
But Flossie Wright was just as confused as they were.
"Confess honestly, have you been buttering up the commander behind our backs?"
