Without time to think it through, Jessie Grain quickly turned over, helped the Criminal Police officer with a leg injury who had fallen to the ground, and dragged him behind a small, concealed slope.
She took a brief breath.
Taking a moment, Jessie Grain frowned in contemplation, trying to figure out who had fired that last shot.
The direction of the recent shot had no other SWAT officers around, and it had come from the direction they arrived from.

If she wasn’t mistaken, it must have been Flossie Wright.
Jessie Grain thought she wasn’t foolish, but even at that moment, she couldn’t fully fathom Flossie’s intentions.
Had she anticipated an ambush in advance?
Probably so.
Edward Milton had analyzed it too but dismissed the possibility, yet Flossie had grasped onto it. Even if the chance was slim, she had prepared herself to follow and cover them.
Suddenly, she felt an incredible sensation.
There was one thing Jessie Grain still couldn’t understand.
This matter, Flossie Wright could have been straightforward about it, voicing her suspicions, and Jessie Grain believed that as long as it was clearly explained, Edward Milton would certainly agree to her providing cover from behind.
That’s right.
Her thoughts shifted, and Jessie Grain figured out a couple of things.
Flossie Wright didn’t like to explain, reason one.
Edward Milton was stubborn, likely hard to convince, reason two.
Of course, these two reasons weren’t enough to make Flossie so adamant; there must have been another reason.
Jessie Grain didn’t understand Flossie, so naturally, she couldn’t completely grasp her reasons.
Sinking into her thoughts for a few seconds, when it was crucial to act, Jessie Grain didn’t ponder any further. She took down the Sniper she was carrying on her back and began to search for traces of the enemy.
The hidden Sniper had already fooled the enemies. The unexpected bullets sent people to hell one after another, suppressing the enemies’ movements. Now, with Jessie Grain as another Sniper, the advantage was like adding wings to a tiger.
Cold bullets whipped through the air, emitting a sharp, piercing noise as they quickly entered the enemies’ foreheads.
Then came another shot, entering an enemy’s chest.
Jessie Grain had fired two shots.
Forehead, chest, ensuring the enemies were dead without any chance of recovery.
Afterward, the hand holding the Sniper began to tremble slightly.
"First kill?"
When had he arrived, the SWAT officer sitting on the ground, sweating coldly and enduring the pain, bandaged his own wound while gasping for breath and asked Jessie Grain.
After a moment of silence.
Taking a long breath out, Jessie Grain slowly came to her senses and responded, "Yes."
This truly was her first kill.
Previously, she had participated in real combat but had never taken a life.
This was the first time she used a cold bullet to end another person’s life. Even though she killed from the shadows, she still felt as if her hands were stained with blood.
An uncontrollable emotion suddenly surged within her.
Taking a life was just a momentary act, yet the shock left behind gnawed at her calm.
Is what killing feels like.
Was it guilt, or resignation?
Jessie Grain’s mind was in turmoil, she couldn’t think clearly for the moment, but the scene of the person falling replayed over and over in her mind.
"You’ll get used to it," the SWAT officer gritted his teeth, struggling to speak, "It takes time, but you’ll adapt."
"And you guys?"
Still holding the Sniper, Jessie Grain continued to scan for enemies and asked the SWAT officer in a hushed tone.
"We’re all the same," the officer said with difficulty while simply stopping the bleeding, moving closer to Jessie Grain, staying on guard and saying to her, "Everyone’s like this the first time they kill. Those who aren’t affected by killing people are psychopaths."
