"Miss Wright, there’s a dinner between the Brightwill and Wright families tonight. They plan to discuss your marriage to young master Brightwill. Will you go back to the Wright house or head straight to the Brightwill’s?"
The driver asked quite casually as if it were a matter of course.
In an instant, Rowdy Brightwill felt an icy gaze from Flossie Wright, which startled him to sit up straight instantly. He leaned forward and asked the driver, "Uncle Tang, what wedding? I’ve never heard of such a thing."
"You’ve never heard?" Driver Tang continued to drive the car steadily but glanced at him quizzically, "Didn’t you two come back together because of the marriage?"
Rowdy Brightwill: "..."
This.... no, actually not!
Although it was Rowdy Brightwill who took the initiative to ask Flossie Wright to come back and he indeed thought about discussing their marriage engagement privately, it had nothing to do with actual wedding preparations. Besides, he felt that Flossie would be bored staying in the Forces all the time. Since she had been away for so long, he thought she would miss home. The cooking class can always adjust schedules during the New Year when the training mission was not heavy. It wouldn’t matter much if Flossie Wright were absent. So, he arranged a ten-day holiday with the brigadier.
But, he had no idea that it could cause such a misunderstanding.
"So it is!"
The driver, Uncle Tang, thought he had guessed correctly due to Rowdy’s silence and smiled broadly. He once again focused his attention on the road.
Blinking blankly, Rowdy Brightwill was dumbstruck.
Glancing at a baffled Rowdy Brightwill, Flossie Wright lazily leaned back on the rear seat and said in a slightly chilly voice to the driver, "Uncle Tang, take me back to the Wright house."
Although she called him Uncle Tang just like Rowdy Brightwill did, Flossie Wright vaguely had some impression of him. This address did not seem abrupt.
Driver Tang thought that Flossie Wright would definitely go with Rowdy Brightwill. But he got an unexpected answer, and he couldn’t help being stunned for a moment. Then he replied in a somewhat bewildered manner, "Alright, okay."
It was just before the rush hour, the traffic flow was relatively smooth. Flossie Wright turned her head and looked through the window at the passing cars and towering skyscrapers, unconsciously frowning.
She had been to this city, and she had been to many similar cities. But after staying in the Forces for just around two months, which wasn’t long, she remarkably found herself becoming estranged from this bright and dazzling city.
Sitting beside her, Rowdy Brightwill was joking with driver Tang about how clear he remembered the fun and food that existed there two years ago, but now he would not even know how to drive home. The exaggerated language made driver Tang laugh heartily, but he didn’t realize that there was some truth in what Rowdy Brightwill said.
The development pace here was incredibly fast. Even being away for just a year, or even a few months, they would find the city undergoing incredible changes.
After a short while, the ringtone of Rowdy Brightwill’s mobile phone sounded abruptly, simultaneously interrupting his conversation with driver Tang.
"Aunt Chai?" Seeing the contact name, Rowdy Brightwill read it out loud subconsciously, then raised his eyebrows at Flossie Wright as the ringtone continued, "Is your phone out of battery again?"
A bit puzzled, Flossie Wright replied flatly, "I didn’t bring it."
She didn’t like being restricted by a mobile phone, and she wasn’t used to carrying one. Since there was no one she needed to contact this time out, naturally she didn’t need to bring her phone.
The crucial point was, ever since the phone came into her possession, she had never charged it. She didn’t even know if it could still be switched on.
