The sea water rose and fell, and a cool breeze blew.
Five boats were docked at the shore, secured with ropes. Nearly fifty female soldiers in uniform marched up to the coast, standing neatly at the urging of the whistle.
"There are ten roads leading in, you may choose your own path, and then follow the locations on the map," the four squad leaders stood at the front, the leader of the first squad taking the lead in speaking, "I would like to emphasize here, there are twenty markers on the island, but only ten are marked on the map, the landmarks you record will not be exactly the same."
The implication being, it ruled out any possibility of cheating.
All the recruits shouted out habitually, their hearts already fed up with such warnings.
Two minutes later, after all the squad leaders had given their instructions, they gave the command, and all the women dispersed.
"Flossie, good luck." Janice Wood, always anxious, couldn’t help but worry about Flossie Wright before setting off.
Flossie casually waved back to her. She tossed her backpack over her shoulder, "You too."
Their paths were different, but Flossie looked at their two maps. There were several identical sections and, if lucky, they should run into each other.
However, Jocelyn Carrington, who had long been adjusting her sights on Flossie, also followed another path. She didn’t have a chance to make her move against Flossie in a short time, which resulted in Flossie being glared at by Jocelyn from the time she got the map until she entered the jungle.
Five people walked along one road, all from different classes. Flossie entered the jungle and the other four consciously left her behind, making it clear they didn’t like her.
Flossie idly followed behind, maintaining a relaxed distance from them. She could faintly bear their talk about her, probably discussing her likely fake shooting results and how many days she could survive in this field survival training. Flossie glossed over it and leisurely observed her surroundings.
About ten minutes later, Flossie’s calm expression finally changed a bit. Her gaze lingered for a moment on a pile of weeds overhead, and then she nonchalantly averted her eyes.
Suddenly, the four women in front screeched and scurried backward in panic.
Catching sight of the narrow path that could only allow two people to walk side by side, Flossie, with good sense, stopped in place. She squinted slightly and watched the horde of terrified female soldiers running past her, as if fearing that a late step would result in being bitten by the snake they had seen.
Only when they ran several meters past Flossie did they gradually halt and turned to stare in surprise at Flossie, who had no reaction.
"Hey, are you not afraid of snakes?"
One of the four soldiers, almost huddling together, suddenly shouted at Flossie, her face still showing fear.
Flossie’s thoughts were not on them at all. She replied casually and kept walking forward along the narrow path without pause.
Not long after, Flossie saw the snake that had scared those four women out of their wits.
It was a colorful coral snake, currently napping in a pile of grass next to the road, completely ignoring their unwelcome presence.
The four women hesitated behind her, watching nervously as Flossie took one step after another towards the snake. They grabbed each other’s hands, unsure whether they were scared of the other running away first or if they were genuinely comforting each other.
Flossie paused slightly in front of the coral snake. Her eyes were always on the top. When her eyes flickered, she squatted down quickly.
"Bang——"
Simultaneously, a sniper rifle fitted with a silencer fired a bullet, causing a noise when it hit the target.
Before anyone could react, one very unfortunate being from among the huddled group of four had a cloud of red smoke rising from her head.
The remaining three, having never encountered such crisis before, could only stare at their "sacrificed" companion. They watched as red smoke entwined around their comrade’s head, forming a long ribbon in the air.
After a moment’s stupor, someone finally reacted and subconsciously roared.
Swiftly following that, the three "surviving" soldiers lifted their guns. However, hidden in the jungle, they could not locate their target. They panicked standing back to back, diligently searching for the sniper’s direction.
"Find a place to hide!"
After sweeping around and finding no trace, one frustrated female soldier stamped her feet, shouted, and immediately headed towards a concealed area nearby.
"Bang——"
"Bang——"
"Bang——"
Three consecutive sounds followed. A meticulous rhythm sent them all to "heaven" within a few seconds.
They had not left their original positions, and clouds of red smoke rose from their heads one after another. It also marked the end of their survival training in the wild.
"Damn, isn’t that too cruel?"
"Just arrived and we’re done. Are they playing us?"
"Frick, if I find out who did this, I’ll gouge his eyes out!"
The female soldiers, realizing that they’re already "dead," stared wide-eyed in disbelief at the red smoke rising from their heads. They huddled together, cursing in ill-temper. If they could, they would beat up the damned sniper.
They were all recruits. Moreover, isn’t the theme of this time survival in the wild? Isn’t this putting the cart before the horse?
"Eh, where’s Flossie?"
Midway through their swearing, someone remembered Flossie Wright, who had been with them. As she turned to look at where Flossie had previously stood, she realized that Flossie, who should have been in the company of the coral snake, had disappeared without a trace.
Along with her, the incredibly terrifying coral snake had also disappeared.
"Did she run far away?"
A few female soldiers looked at the empty spot in bewilderment, speculating cluelessly.
The sniper hidden in the shadows had taken out four in a row. He was about to finish the last one quickly and get back early, but when he adjusted the sight of his sniper rifle, he found that the target, which should have been not far away, had disappeared.
The sniper wiped the sweat from his forehead, readjusted his scope for confirmation, and couldn’t help but think, did she manage to escape in such a short time?
Just as he thought this, the sniper felt a threat coming from behind. Before he could turn to see the situation, a striking coral snake fell on his neck, startling him.
"Don’t move."
Following a warning, the muzzle of a gun was aimed at his temple.
