Having paused for a few seconds, the soldier didn’t see Nathan Foster, so he took another deep breath, and shouted louder, "Instructor Foster—"
"Calling ghosts!"
Before the soldier could finish his shout, a voice interrupted him from behind. Even though Nathan Foster’s tone wasn’t friendly, the soldier still warily approached him, a look of consideration flickering across his furrowed brow.
Not for any other reason, but because this soldier was responsible for watching over Flossie Wright, and also ensuring her safety. Leaving his post was simply out of the question, and considering his anxious demeanor...
It was hard to believe that Flossie Wright hadn’t had some kind of mishap.
"There’s trouble," the soldier gasped, his lips dry, his voice shaky but unable to conceal the urgency, "Flossie Wright has fallen into the sea!"
Almost everyone who heard these words immediately stood up from their seats. Even the few individuals busy with cooking instinctively stopped what they were doing and, showing signs of panic, gathered around.
Nathan Foster’s complexion changed in an instant. As though he couldn’t process the news all at once, he tried his best to hide his inner turmoil. He looked sternly at the soldier, his voice piercing, "What happened?!"
"She was halfway up, probably lost strength and fell." The soldier shrunk his neck in the face of the sudden uproar, plucked up his courage and added, "Captain Hutchinson was there. He saw and... and jumped right off the cliff."
The noisy crowd fell silent for a few seconds.
Suddenly, panic, tension, and murmurs of discussion erupted, impossible to anticipate.
"Oh my god, such a high fall will surely kill you."
"Jump straight off the cliff... Has Captain Hutchinson gone mad?!"
"What should we do, is there anything we can do? Is it still possible to rescue them from the sea?"
"Don’t be silly. That high a fall, even if you don’t die, you would at least be half-dead."
Janice Wood stood there in a daze, the disorganized voices buzzing into her ears as if she couldn’t hear anything. Only one phrase ruled her mind, spoken by that soldier -
Flossie Wright has fallen into the sea!
Fallen into the sea...
How could this be?!
Meanwhile, Becca Reyes quickly came over to her side and, seeing her pale face, instinctively patted her shoulder, "Calm down first. Flossie Wright is damn lucky, she will be okay."
She said that, but even Becca Reyes wasn’t so sure herself.
The danger of that cliff was clear to anyone who had been there. Due to its danger, many new recruits were too scared to practice there. However, the more dangerous a place, the more caution it inspires. No matter how difficult, everyone would grit their teeth and persevere without giving up easily, in order to test the mettle of the new soldiers.
As far as Becca Reyes knew, no such serious mishap had happened on that cliff before. At most, some soldiers couldn’t overcome their fear and froze mid-climb, crying and making a spectacle of themselves. Rescuing them in circumstance like that was relatively easy.
But, not a single rookie had climbed as many times as Flossie Wright did, nor did any instructor dare to let the rookies take such a risk. If they were to lose all their strength mid-climb and accidentally fall off...
The consequences were unthinkable.
The previous attitude of Becca Reyes towards Flossie Wright was simply because she believed that many people would plead with Nathan Foster, and he certainly would not be harsh.
