"What kind of freaks are these, not even knowing where to hide!"
"We’ve searched all around, not a single person in sight."
"If I find out who the bastard is that fired the gun, I really want to beat the shit out of him!"
"Damn it, it’s fucking frustrating!"
Complaints abounded, one after another.
Listening for a while, Flossie Wright turned to face Glenn Hutchinson and asked with raised eyebrows, "Aren’t you going up?"
The previously still Glenn Hutchinson, hearing this, glanced down at her, then frowned slightly, his voice low and grim, "Cold?"
The dim twilight persisted, with only a few stars left in the night sky, casting a faint light on Flossie Wright’s face, making it look ghastly pale.
The pallor of her face was in stark contrast to the camouflage paint on it.
Unnaturally white, she was obviously cold.
Before she could finish,
Glenn Hutchinson received a call, tilted his head towards the earpiece, and listened intently with furrowed brows.
Flossie Wright frowned.
Meanwhile—
Amidst slight movements, the wire rope was completely cut through.
In that instant, her limbs regained freedom.
Taking a breath as if without a care, Flossie Wright lifted her eyes to look at Glenn Hutchinson, who was still on the call.
Making a snap decision, she took advantage of the gap and quickly dived into the sea.
On the surface of the sea, in the next moment, there were only ripples spreading out in circles.
Glenn Hutchinson remained motionless, retracting his peripheral vision.
How could he not notice Flossie Wright’s movements?
It was a rare exercise, and it didn’t matter if she escaped.
In exercises like this, Flossie Wright’s presence would leave some impression, but not a significant one.
The annual exercise was a test of the capabilities of all soldiers, not just to pick out one or a few exceptional ones.
Flossie Wright didn’t run too far.
She knew well that Glenn Hutchinson had intentionally let her go and certainly wouldn’t bother to follow her.
So, after a while, she surfaced from the water.
Swimming along the edge of the island, she stopped, then looked at the steep slope beside her, pondered for a couple of seconds, and climbed up the slope.
With practice makes perfect, having undergone countless rock-climbing training sessions, Flossie Wright could still climb up steadily even with cold limbs.
"Don’t move!"
Just as her fingers touched the top, gripping the withered grass rooted in the soil, Flossie Wright was jolted by a stern voice.
It was a woman’s voice.
And, it was distinctively familiar.
"It’s me."
Stopping her movements, Flossie Wright lazily spoke up.
The female soldier on the slope hesitated, furrowing her brows in thought, then bent down and cautiously called out, "Flossie?"
Tilting her head slightly, Flossie Wright revealed her face and glanced at Becca Reyes.
"What brought you here?"
Having confirmed her identity, Becca Reyes widened her eyes and asked as she pulled her up.
Using the leverage to climb onto the slope, Flossie Wright settled down to sit.
Not exactly tired, but somewhat cold.
"Accident." Twisting the water out of her sleeves, Flossie Wright curtly replied.
Accustomed to Flossie Wright’s way of speaking, Becca Reyes was surprisingly calm in accepting it.
"Where are the others?" Grasping Flossie Wright’s hand, Becca Reyes shivered from the cold.
"All gone," Flossie Wright pulled back her hand.
