This unruly-looking young man seemed familiar; he appeared to be a formal member of the Amphibious Reconnaissance Patrol, but she did not know him.
She felt that he did not know her either.
A strange feeling flashed through her mind, but she did not think much about it.
Maybe, this person was strange in nature.
"Let’s go."
Rowdy Brightwill, bearing the good gun, arrived in front of the two of them. Looking like he was in a good mood, he directly opened the door and spearheaded for them.
It was not far from here to the exit, one only needed to cross a corridor to get there.
No significant effort was needed.
However, the presence of Rowdy Brightwill gave Flossie Wright and Belinda Nichols an unexpected umbrella of protection.
Older soldiers usually acted in pairs. Since most of the new recruits had run upstairs, there were fewer older soldiers on the first floor. The blatant appearance of Rowdy Brightwill stunned the older soldiers who knew him, and they didn’t know how to react for a moment.
That moment was enough for Rowdy Brightwill to raise his gun and neutralize them both.
What’s even more infuriating was that the sound of gunfire would only make the older soldiers feel like it’s their ally. The older soldiers on the second floor hardly ever came down to check the situation.
With that, the group of three easily made their way to the front door.
Nonchalantly.
Fair and square.
As soon as they saw the three coming out, almost all the "dead" people waiting at the door were stunned, their eyes full of surprise.
Unconsciously swallowing.
Unclear on what was happening.
Wasn’t it about rescuing hostages?
What they saw was Rowdy Brightwill holding a rifle, looking magnificent and dashing. Behind him were Flossie Wright and Belinda Nichols, who had just entered moments ago. They looked relaxed and comfortable, as if they had strolled in and out without any signs of a struggle.
The soldiers outside were almost popping their eyes out.
This scene made it look more like the hostages were guarding the new rookies, didn’t it?
"Well, it looks like a lot of you have fallen too."
As soon as Rowdy Brightwill came out and got a clear view of the situation outside, he cheerfully called out to the pile of "fallen" older soldiers.
However, as soon as his words fell, the group of old soldiers charged up—
"Damn, where is the hostage you talked about?"
"Why are you standing in front, since when did hostages become bodyguards?"
"You...you...you shameless bastard, you still have a gun!"
"Rowdy Brightwill, are you playing fair?!"
With the uproar, Flossie Wright and Belinda Nichols tactfully stepped back two steps. Soon after, Rowdy Brightwill, who had just been standing upright and still waving at people, was suddenly knocked to the ground by a crowd of people. It was as if he was part of a domino collapse, with Rowdy Brightwill complaining bitterly underneath the pile of people.
A wave of noise ensued.
In no time, Austin Shepherd and Nathan Foster appeared.
Compared to Austin Shepherd’s calm demeanor, Nathan Foster’s face turned exceedingly grim. So much so, that as soon as Rowdy Brightwill saw him, he subtly hid behind Drake Easton.
In their team, the only one who could manage to control Nathan Foster, besides Captain Bard, was Drake Easton with his more serious demeanor.
Ignoring Rowdy Brightwill’s antics, Nathan Foster whistles for all the recruits to gather.
They stand in formation.
Flossie Wright was about the same height as Becca Reyes and they usually stood together. But this time, Becca intentionally shifted her position to avoid standing next to Flossie.
"Since the hostage has been rescued, this mission is over," Austin Shepherd stated straightforwardly, "it’s quite late now. Morning exercises are cancelled. We’ll gather after breakfast."
He paused, staring at the group of recruits with obvious joy on their faces, loudly declared, "Dismissed!"
The moment his words fell, the quiet and orderly square formation immediately began bustling with activity.
Grouping together, they chit-chatted while making their way to the dormitory.
Flossie Wright paused for two seconds, taking note of Becca Reyes who had left without a word. Anyone could tell that Becca looked distracted and lost.
In the end, she did not follow.
As for the other one...
Throughout the assembly, Calvin Ramos’s face bore a serious expression.
As soon as they were dismissed, he left with the crowd, ignoring even Stuart Weston who was talking to him by his side.
"Flossie Wright!"
Suddenly, a voice came from in front of her.
While Flossie was deep in thought, Austin Shepherd had already appeared before her.
Looking up at him, Flossie asked.
There was no respect towards her superior, yet there was no disrespect either.
Her attitude was just as if he was a regular person.
As long as it wasn’t during training, Flossie’s attitude towards anyone was always the same. If they were outside the forces, even if the brigadier stood before her, she might not pay him any heed.
"Is there something going on with Becca Reyes and Calvin Ramos?"
When the crowd around them had mostly left, Austin Shepherd asked quietly, encapsulating clear suspicion and doubt in his expression.
Calvin Ramos and Becca Reyes...
In the beginning, there might not have been anything amiss, but their performance was clearly distracted after they disappeared from the monitor for a few minutes and then reappeared, being eliminated soon after.
But, given their abilities, even if they didn’t find the hostage, it’s unlikely they’d be eliminated from the mission so quickly.
Austin Shepherd was good at observing people and spotting anomalies, so the performance of the two naturally stayed in his mind.
Flossie did not hide anything, but neither did she give a direct answer.
Why hide it?
She found no reason to.
She guessed that Austin Shepherd would also know his limits. Without absolute certainty, he wouldn’t act out.
Of course, she didn’t know the truth of the matter either, so she couldn’t give Austin Shepherd anything useful.
"I see." Austin Shepherd nodded slightly.
"I’ll go now."
Shrugging, Flossie glanced at Rowdy Brightwill, who was under attack not too far away, and walked directly towards him.
She walked into the noisy crowd and her appearance quieted the rowdy veterans a bit.
"Lend him to me for a bit."
Raising her hand to grab the back of Rowdy Brightwill’s collar, Flossie raised an eyebrow at the others and pulled Rowdy away.
Pulled into a corner, Rowdy’s collar was finally loosened.
"You you you...what’s up?"
Rowdy initially wanted to express his dissatisfaction, but seeing Flossie’s calm face, he eventually gave up.
"Lend me your phone."
Flossie Wright was straightforward.
