Flossie Wright nodded calmly.
"Where’s the boss—"
Just as the boss was about to continue, he heard the call of a customer and, feeling helpless, had no choice but to stand up from his seat.
However, after taking just one step, he paused, smiled at Flossie Wright, and said, "Today, I’ll give you a discount."
"Isn’t it free?" Flossie Wright raised her eyebrows, pushing her luck.
"Soldiers eating without paying?" The boss was quite surprised but didn’t get angry.
"Soldiers have no money." Flossie Wright shrugged.
Hesitating for a moment, the boss frowned in thought and finally nodded firmly, "Alright! Consider it my way of saying thanks to you."
Having said that, he didn’t wait for Flossie Wright’s reaction and hurried off to make the barbecue.
Meanwhile—
Flossie Wright was momentarily stunned.
The food she had ordered wasn’t cheap; it was definitely over a hundred. Just based on her status alone, the boss had given her a free meal?
She had not expected that what started as a joke would be taken seriously.
Half an hour later, Flossie Wright left several red banknotes under the plates and quietly left.

Eleven o’clock.
Flossie Wright returned to the Wright Family home.
By that time, Regan Wright had already come home and was inquiring about and discussing the arrangements for the funeral.
Upon seeing Flossie Wright, his expression suddenly turned dark, but with others present, he couldn’t berate her.
"Have you eaten?"
After a moment, he stared at Flossie Wright, who was walking by, and asked coolly.
Pausing for a moment, Flossie completed her reply and headed straight for the stairs.
Watching her, Regan Wright snorted coldly and then ignored her.
Guests, of course, pretended not to notice.
Flossie Wright’s room had been cleaned and everything was the same as she remembered. This time, however, she didn’t need to open the French windows herself.
The evening breeze entered through the window gently, bringing with it the cool aura of early summer nights.
The Wright Family had many rules, most of which were set by Regan Wright, aside from some basic etiquette.
For example, unless absolutely necessary, air conditioners were not to be used all day during the summer.
He disliked the modern way of life and believed those things could harm their bodies without them realizing it.
For example, using air conditioning at night could easily lead to catching a cold and might even result in long-term consequences.
So, on evenings like this, the villa’s air conditioning was typically off.
However, in this place and season, one could comfortably wear long sleeves, and Flossie Wright accepted it with ease.
After a round on the balcony, Flossie Wright took out everything from her pockets, dumped them on the bed, then found her nightgown in the wardrobe and went into the bathroom to take a bath.
When she came out, she realized her phone was ringing.
Drawing closer, she caught sight of "Glenn Hutchinson’s" name.
Her brows furrowed slightly, Flossie Wright dabbed the water from her hair, then sat on the bed and picked up the phone to answer the call.
"What is it?"
Direct and to the point, in Flossie Wright’s brisk and efficient manner.
Glenn Hutchinson was used to this and didn’t ask anything else, saying directly, "Are you at home?"
"What’s going on with your grandfather?"
After a brief pause, Flossie Wright continued drying her hair with the towel and then, lowering her gaze, asked in a low voice, "Where did you hear about it?"
"My mother mentioned it." Glenn Hutchinson was straightforward.
Flossie Wright nodded in realization.
It was said that there was a connection between the elder generations of the Wright and Hutchinson families, as Grandfather Wright and Grandfather Hutchinson had once been fellow soldiers and fought in battles together.
It wasn’t strange for the Hutchinson Family to know about Grandfather Wright being hospitalized.
After some thought, Flossie didn’t hide anything, speaking frankly, "We disagree."
"Military service." After a slight pause, Flossie Wright didn’t wait for his continued questions and went on to say, "He wants me to have the spirit of sacrifice."
"..." The other end fell silent, and after a while, Glenn Hutchinson suppressed a laugh and asked, "Is that all?"
Flossie Wright answered indifferently.
"How did you respond?" Glenn Hutchinson asked with interest.
Flossie Wright frowned in hesitation and suddenly her voice dropped a few degrees colder, "I won’t sacrifice."
There was silence on the other end again.
Moments later, Flossie Wright suddenly spoke, "Is that wrong?"
"Why would it be wrong?" Glenn Hutchinson countered, "Everyone has a home, something worth holding onto. Although we are soldiers, do we not even have the right to want to live?"
"So you think this way?"
Flossie Wright asked, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
"What I think is unimportant," Glenn Hutchinson’s voice dropped, sounding quite somber, "It’s easy to talk big, to vow to give up one’s life heedlessly. But no matter what you say or think, that is not the standard by which a soldier is judged. What’s important is what you actually do when you’re faced with life and death."
Flossie Wright pondered, feeling that his words made a lot of sense.
"Besides, the country invests heavily in training you not so that you can go and get yourself killed." Glenn Hutchinson’s tone was gentle, yet it carried strong persuasive power.
The country trains them to protect the nation, to safeguard its people. They are the nation’s deterrent against foreign threats, a formidable force indestructible.
They cannot afford to lose any life.
The worry that plagued Grandfather Wright did not exist in Glenn Hutchinson’s eyes.
Flossie Wright might not have a heart for the country and its people, but the Flossie Wright he knew would never become a deserter.
In the face of life and death, a soldier who does not retreat is far more precious than one who has made a thousand promises.
After some thought, Flossie Wright suddenly asked, "Do you teach your soldiers this way?"
"No," Glenn Hutchinson denied firmly, "You are not my soldier."
"That’s true." Flossie Wright responded softly.
"Ever thought about coming over?" he asked casually, throwing out another lure.
"No need." Flossie Wright outright refused.
With a soft chuckle, this outcome was not unexpected to Glenn Hutchinson.
The two chatted for a while longer.
Glenn Hutchinson, in just a few words, offered Flossie Wright a strategy to resolve her grandfather’s concerns.
After hanging up, Flossie Wright realized that, unbeknownst to her, it was already twelve o’clock.
Without further ado or worry, she turned off her phone to charge it, turned off the lights, and went to bed to sleep.
A night of peaceful sleep.
