Below the building, a faint halo of light projected in from the entrance, falling on the two figures seemingly in an intimate moment, and the sight pierced Jocelyn Carrington’s heart like a needle.
Rowdy Brightwill’s hand was on Flossie Wright’s shoulder. The gesture seemed affectionate, but the force in his grip was not light, making Flossie’s shoulder throb with pain.
Actually, the moment Rowdy first approached her, Flossie was alert. Unfortunately, her cane and injured foot inhibited her motion. Initially, she couldn’t keep up with him, and then the force he exerted on her shoulder distracted her. When she finally reacted, Rowdy’s face inflamed with rage was painfully close – so close that Flossie could feel his slightly fast-paced breathing.
Seeing his face drawing closer, Flossie’s gaze cooled in an instant. Her eyes were frigidly cold and a terrifying chill ran through her deep gaze. Flossie’s casual and indifferent aura transformed in an instant into a sharp and assertive edge.
It was this sudden shift in her aura that caused Rowdy to pause momentarily. He looked down at Flossie, who seemed completely unchanged, a dash of doubt crossing his mind.
But before he could think further, Flossie had already gathered strength in her fist. Raising it from below, she accurately landed a punch on his chin, with all the force she could muster. Rowdy, unprepared for her punch, was caught off guard. He almost toppled backward, forced to step back several times to steady himself.
"What do you..."
Rowdy, having just taken a sudden and severe blow, was utterly confused. He held his chin and looked angrily at Flossie, but before he could finish speaking, he was abruptly taken aback.
Flossie stood backlit, and as the light outside was about to dim, she seemed to be bathed in a white glow. It was hard to see her blurred face, but Rowdy could clearly feel her icy gaze, the threat and warning hit him like a substantial blow in his heart. Rowdy’s eyes widened slightly as he watched Flossie’s silhouette against the setting sun. Even her dependence on a cane couldn’t conceal her chilling aura.
"Stay away from me."
The indifferent voice came from Flossie, as if there was no relationship between her and Rowdy. The glint in her eyes gradually faded as she finished speaking. She didn’t glance at Rowdy again but walked towards the stairs, leaning on her cane.
Watching Flossie’s retreating figure, Rowdy’s brow furrowed as he held his chin. It was only then that he tasted the metallic tang of blood in his mouth. A bubbling anger in his chest was turning into intense frustration.
Damn, all he did was touch his future wife, was it necessary to be so ruthless?!
In the middle of the stairs, Jocelyn Carrington had been watching the whole scene. Her gaze fixated on Flossie as she saw her walking up step by step. Her heart felt like it was taking a literal beating with Flossie’s every step. A myriad of emotions were at war in her chest, confusion, caution, or perhaps fear.
Flossie, who she just witnessed, was completely unlike anyone she had met before. There was no murderous intent, yet she had the ability to command attention with her aura alone. Her decision to attack Rowdy showed no hint of hesitation, as if it was second nature to her.

Finally, Flossie arrived in front of Jocelyn. Jocelyn’s heart skipped a beat, but Flossie didn’t seem to acknowledge her presence. The next moment, she bypassed Jocelyn and continued upstairs at a leisurely pace.
For some reason, Jocelyn seemed relieved only when Flossie reached the second floor. She remained stiff where she stood.
"You, come down."
Startled by the sudden voice, Jocelyn hesitated. It took her a moment to realise that Rowdy was calling her. He was standing below with a light smile on his face as if nothing had happened.
After a moment’s hesitation, she forced herself to remain calm and walk downstairs.
Seeing Jocelyn approach, Rowdy casually asked while rubbing his chin, "How much did you see?"
The faint prick of pain in her heart nudged Jocelyn. She braced herself and replied firmly, "Instructor, I didn’t see anything!"
"Oh?" Rowdy raised his eyebrows seeming a little surprised at her discretion, but he quickly eased up. He patted her shoulder, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Excellent, keep up the good work."
With that, he turned around and left.
Jocelyn, who was still in the same place, watched his retreating figure with a hint of loss in her gaze.
Over the past few days, Flossie had been working in the cooking class. However, due to her injuries, there was only so much she could do. This meant that the new recruits assigned to help in the kitchen were incessantly busy.
Thus, on the last day of Flossie’s leave, Jocelyn was there to help with the cooking – a classic case of willful enemies crossing paths.
At daybreak, as usual, Flossie woke up early. Before she could get out of bed, she heard a noise from the lower bunk. She squinted to see what was going on, and with the help of the emerging daylight, she clearly saw Jocelyn getting dressed with a stiff face. While bending over to put on her shoes, Jocelyn suddenly looked up and shot Flossie a cold glance before turning away.
Seeing Jocelyn get up and leave with her toiletries, Flossie gave her a puzzled look before preparing to leave the bed herself.
Meanwhile, Janice Wood, who was in the bunk below Flossie, suddenly knocked on the bed frame. Her head peaked out stealthily from below. She whispered, "Flossie, Jocelyn has been training like her life depends on it recently, and her hostility towards you is also deepening. Be careful today."
"Oh." Flossie touched her nose and nodded nonchalantly.
Immediately afterwards, Janice gave her an "OK" sign with her hand and then quietly disappeared again.
Flossie’s foot had healed to the point where she could move freely a couple of days ago. Now, she could move around without her cane. She checked her surroundings leisurely before readying herself. When Jocelyn, who made it clear she wanted to get there before her, left, Flossie went to freshen up and get ready. It wasn’t until the morning whistle was about to blow that Flossie made her way towards the kitchen.
But as she entered the kitchen in time with the wake-up whistle, she found Jocelyn, who had arrived in the kitchen earlier, standing in her way.
"Early, huh?"
Flossie raised her eyebrows, a teasing smile on her lips as she rhetorically asked Jocelyn.
Jocelyn found Flossie’s carefree attitude especially irritating. She frowned deeply and glared at Flossie, "Flossie Wright, I’ve already spoken to the class leader. To test your progress in the cooking class and increase my enthusiasm for helping in the kitchen, we’ll have a cooking competition this afternoon."
