The dusk sets in, with a chilly wind breezing.
Flossie Wright stares at the man she happened to encounter. Even though he seems cool on the outside, she can’t help but feel a little awkward inside.
The man in front of her is Isaac Zachary, the driver who gave her a lift a few days ago. His identity is quite simple - a fitness coach working nearby. Flossie has habitually gleaned nearly all the information about him. As for what she told him about herself, she blended truth and fiction, creating a casual alias.
Even so, Flossie treated Isaac Zachary as a casual acquaintance, hardly expecting another encounter. Yet, who would have thought she would bump into him while out for a jog.
However, since they are in the same Villa District, meeting isn’t too unexpected for her.
"What a coincidence."
Flossie squints slightly, gives him a slight nod, and casually responds.
"Are you also here for a jog?"
Even though it was just their first meeting, Isaac Zachary’s outgoing character, coupled with the pleasant conversation he had with Flossie last time, makes him greet Flossie warmly as if they were great friends.
However, preoccupied with Flossie, he doesn’t notice Glenn Hutchinson’s increasingly sullen expression.
"Hmm, wanna join us?"
Calmly accepting his comments, Flossie casually asks. In her eyes, this isn’t a big deal, it’s just a matter of changing course a little.
"Sure." Upon Flossie’s invitation, Isaac Zachary readily agrees. However, he couldn’t help but notice the heavy presence of Glenn Hutchinson nearby. Curiously, he asks, "And who is this?"
"A friend."
That’s how Flossie introduces Glenn without revealing too much about his identity.
"Oh, hi," Isaac Zachary naturally extends his hand to Glenn Hutchison, "I’m Isaac Zachary, Flossie’s friend."
A cloud of gloom deepening on his brow, Glenn Hutchison glances at the enthusiastic, muscular man. In a somewhat lower voice, he holds out his hand in return, saying, "Hi."
Almost simultaneously, their hands clasp with an air of nonchalance. But this simple gesture is fraught with unspoken tension. Isaac Zachary, who initially grips Glenn’s hand, cringes at the bone-crushing strength in Glenn’s grasp. He desperately tries to pull his hand free, but Glenn torments him for a bit, before finally letting go at his leisure.
The moment his hand is freed, Isaac Zachary’s face pales. As he looks at Glenn Hutchison, a new understanding flashes in his eyes.
As a fitness coach, he prides himself on his strength, and he didn’t think a common person could stand a chance against him in arm-wrestling. But the man in front of him has exceeded his expectations. He seems capable without any overtly developed muscles to signify it. Isaac Zachary can’t figure out where all that strength comes from. More puzzling is Glenn’s ease even in the biting cold, wearing only a white shirt without an outer coat.
"Let’s run."
Flossie has, of course, observed their silent duel. But she didn’t understand the reason behind it. She doesn’t bother to figure it out and signals them to continue jogging after a wave of her hand.
The bodies that had been warmed up with half an hour’s running only required a minute or two’s rest before feeling the chill again in this wind. This kind of running isn’t very efficient.
Having expansive coverage, the Villa District would take roughly two hours for them to circle once at their current speed catering to Flossie’s running routine.
