The sky gradually lightened.
Inside the cave.
Becca Reyes woke up from her stupor.
In her grogginess, she could vaguely hear the crackling of the fire, and on one side, she could feel its warmth.
At the same time, her body didn’t have the exhaustion and heaviness from last night.
Frowning slightly, Becca Reyes struggled to open her eyes.
Turning her head, her bright black eyes caught the images belonging to the inside of the cave.
The first thing she saw was the figure sitting beside her.
The familiar military uniform.
The familiar silhouette.
The back was straight and proper, wearing only a short-sleeved inner shirt, which was wet and clung tightly to the body.
Her gaze lifted slightly, and she saw Calvin Ramos’s profile, the handsome contours of his face, and his hair still dripping with water, as if he had been through water.
Very soon, she realized what Calvin Ramos had done.
Next to the still burning fire, there were four forked sticks, with two fish set upon them, currently giving off an appetizing aroma as they roasted.
Becca Reyes instinctively looked outside the cave.
The light was faint, very dim.
However, even with the rain falling outside, Becca Reyes was well aware that it was still very early.
So, he went fishing early in the morning?
With a furrowed brow, Becca Reyes puzzled over this as she propped herself up with her hands to sit up.
Calvin Ramos quickly noticed her movement and turned to look at her.
He extended a hand halfway as if to help her, but then abruptly stopped and withdrew it.
Becca Reyes didn’t notice.
Sitting on a dry pile of grass, Becca Reyes thought for a moment, then looked at him with a puzzled raise of her eyebrows, "Did you stay up all night?"
She clearly saw the fatigue in Calvin Ramos’s expression.
"The fish is ready."
Calvin Ramos was not good at conversation, so he awkwardly changed the subject.
More importantly, every time he saw her, the events of last night would resurface in his mind, inevitably causing him some embarrassment.
Becca Reyes didn’t ask further.
Getting up, Becca Reyes took some dry grass and sat down at a spot a little further away from Calvin Ramos.
Watching Calvin Ramos pick up one of the fish, she felt a twinge of nervousness and, without waiting for him to make any move, grabbed the stick with the remaining fish on it.
Time to eat.
Calvin Ramos looked at her with surprise.
He watched for a few seconds.
Seeing her acting naturally and continuing to eat the fish without any change in her expression, he was somewhat baffled.
He hadn’t added salt yet...
He knew that Becca Reyes didn’t like bland food.
Could she really adapt to unsalted fish?
Little did he know that Becca Reyes, who was in a state of tension, didn’t realize this until she had eaten half of the fish and finally relaxed a bit.
It was really, truly, tasteless.
Becca Reyes’s complexion darkened a bit, and then she cautiously glanced at Calvin Ramos. But before he could look her way, she quickly and smoothly diverted her gaze.
She had no choice but to continue eating.
She couldn’t give herself away at this point.
Becca Reyes internally wailed.
Before long, the two of them finished the fish.
Becca Reyes braced herself for what was next.
"Thank you for last night," she said, looking at Calvin Ramos as he slowly added more wood to the fire. After hesitating for a while, she slowly uttered these words.
Pausing for a moment, Calvin Ramos finished adding the last piece of wood and then turned to look at her. His thin lips parted slightly, "No need to thank me."
Pursing her lips, Becca Reyes found herself momentarily at a loss for words.
