Two hours later, a fully satiated Flossie Wright, having nothing else to do, accepted the duty assigned by head officer Lin. With bowl and spoon in hand, she roamed around the cooking class, her clanging filling the space. After about five minutes, she earned some curses from two dormitories. Flossie, fully satisfied, put her tools back into the kitchen and went off to do some shopping with her tricycle.
The Vegetable Market was still quiet and desolate this early. All the stalls were neatly arranged, pretty much the same as always.
"My savior!"
Not long after Flossie entered the market with her shopping cart, Nigel Ferguson appeared from out of nowhere. He waved his bruised and swollen face in front of Flossie, a joyful smile spread across it.
But to Flossie, his face looked more like a ghost’s.
Eyeing the bandages wrapping his body, Flossie squinted slightly, "What’s up?"
"Uh huh!" Nigel said, sounding enthusiastic. He even took the initiative to help Flossie push the shopping cart, his smile somewhat dopey. "Did you intentionally come to save me yesterday?"
Seeing his enthusiasm, Flossie simply let him push the shopping cart while she strolled beside, casually replying, "It was on my way."
Nigel stopped subconsciously. Definitely not on her way given she had to kick in the door...
Seeing Flossie moving on and not waiting for him, Nigel hesitated for a while and then caught up with her again, his smile not fading, but growing brighter. "Anyway, I really want to thank you. Someone reminded me not to spread it, so I can’t make a big fuss... Do you need help with anything? I can do whatever!"
"Yup," Flossie replied, her index finger curled and propped on her chin. Her gaze casually swept over the fresh vegetables around as she replied, "Help me with my shopping."
At the sound of "Yup", Nigel held his breath in anticipation. But all he got was "shopping", leaving him stunned and somewhat disbelieving. "That’s it?"
Flossie ignored him and bent down to examine fresh cabbages.
"Are you sure?" Nigel circled around Flossie persistently, his expression implying to Flossie —
I’m rich, very rich, can’t you scam me a little bit?!
Flossie tilted her head towards him and raised her eyebrows, asked nonchalantly, "Unwilling?"
Without thinking, Nigel shook his head vigorously, as if declining Flossie’s request were a crime. But, his heart still felt uneasy.
He had some knowledge about that day’s situation. He heard that the Armed Police and the soldiers were here to catch drug traffickers. His family chose not to file a police report when threatened. If it weren’t for Flossie’s help, he might really not have escaped that catastrophe.
Since he had been warned by several soldiers, Nigel didn’t dare to reveal Flossie’s name even to his own family. So he thought about expressing his gratitude himself... was he really going to repay his life with a simple shopping task?
"Here." Flossie, after getting Nigel’s consent, didn’t delay. She handed him the shopping list and the money, "When you’re done, find me at the military supply store next door."
"Oh, okay!" Nigel readily agreed, his heart full of joy. But as he saw Flossie about to leave, he remembered something. He stepped forward, "My savior, why didn’t Yvonne come today?"
