Why would she commit suicide out of the blue?
"Him?" Flossie Wright lightly arched an eyebrow, a touch of mystery colouring her composure. A playful smile curled at the corner of her lips. She naturally turned her head and lifted her hand, hooking it under Glenn Hutchinson’s chin. With a flirtatious undertone that was hard to miss, she leaned in against him, seeming boneless. Casually, she turned her attention back to Helen Wright, the seeming triviality in her tone was deceptive, "Your brother-in-law."
Helen Wright, who initially thought Flossie would play coy, was stunned. She blinked blankly, unable to process what was happening.
Just like that, she admitted it?
And so openly at that?
To those who had been waiting for an embarrassing scene, this admission was a profound shock.
They had seen a lot, including backstabbings, but Flossie’s unpredictability was off the charts. When they thought something would never happen, she would casually bring it up, almost shattering their worldview!
Even Benjamin Murphy, an outsider himself, was somewhat perplexed. The woman in front of him seemed exceptionally at ease with everything, a demeanor which seemed incongruous with a normal response to such a situation. Sure, the man looked impressive, but he was a single father.
Moreover, there was no doubt, judging by the child’s age; he and she had no blood ties.
Glenn Hutchinson’s gaze dropped to Flossie’s provocative eyes. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. With an air of casual indifference, he carefully pried Flossie’s hand from his chin and seamlessly pulled her into an embrace. They looked impossibly sweet together, sweetness that melted the heart of anyone who watched. But in the subtle exchange of glances, a battle seemed to ignite.
Flossie was never one for politeness. Given all the times Glenn Hutchinson used to use her as a shield, it was only natural for her to pull him into her gambit as well, considering he did not appear to be against it.
"Isn’t it a bit early to be calling him ’brother-in-law’?" Merry Otiz knitted her brow slightly, casting an antagonistic glance at Glenn Hutchinson and his child. She then turned her sights onto Flossie, assuming an air of authority, "You two aren’t even legally married yet, and no one in the family has agreed."
To Merry, the appearance of this man was an absolute surprise. She’d originally planned to use her own daughter’s perfect love life to ridicule Flossie. But she hadn’t expected Flossie to unexpectedly produce someone whose looks and disposition far outshone Benjamin Murphy. Now, the child seemed to be the only thing Merry could lay her fingers off.
It didn’t matter if the man Flossie was with had a child, whether they got together after his divorce, or whether there was nothing controversial between them. If word of this got to the Wright Family, not only Regan Wright wouldn’t agree, but also the family patriarch would surely object.
The eldest daughter of the Wright Family, intending to marry a divorcee...
The Wright Family couldn’t afford such a loss of face.
"It’s not early," Glenn Hutchinson responded casually, a slight smile playing at the corners of his captivating eyes, "We are about to get our marriage license."
As he spoke, Glenn Hutchinson cast a glance at Flossie, as though silently passing on a message. Unbeknownst to him, Flossie rolled her eyes at him.
Little Hutchinson was seemingly lost in thought as he watched them, chin resting in his hand.
He’d always thought that this ’sister’ of his was a good match for his father. But now it seemed like, they might actually be an item...
