Glenn Hutchinson’s gaze was locked onto the two targets. Despite the distance, coupled with the limitations of his line of sight, he was able to discern their shooting scores clearly.
Proficient shooters know the instant the bullet leaves the barrel whether it will hit the target or not.
All ten bullets were shot in vain. Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes’ movements almost mirrored each other; they put down their rifles nearly simultaneously.
"Report to the instructor, I would like to know our shooting scores!"
Having just laid her rifle down, Becca Reyes turned towards Glenn Hutchinson, hollered with unwavering determination evident in her voice, as if nothing could possibly sway her.
Undeniably, Becca noticed Flossie Wright’s exceptional shooting skill since their time in the rookie squad, where Flossie consistently hit the bullseye. During their last shooting session together, she wanted to ask Glenn about their scores, but was unable to utter a word. But after witnessing Flossie scoring ten out of ten rings in the pouring rain the day before yesterday, Becca’s competitive spirit became uncontrollable.
Shooting was also her strong suit. If someone were to overshadow a skill in which one takes pride, it naturally incites a feeling of discomfort. However, Becca’s perspective towards competition was healthy; she wouldn’t harbor any resentment against Flossie if she couldn’t outperform her in shooting.
She would treat her as she should, but definitely wouldn’t fall short where effort was necessary!
Having been shouted at, Glenn Hutchinson, who was about to lead them to the next area, paused mid-step. He glanced at Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes, his expression nonchalant. He questioned, "Lacking confidence in shooting?"
Becca was momentarily taken aback, somewhat speechless.
Could asking about the scores be related to having confidence in shooting?
"Report, I am very confident in my shooting score!" After thinking for a moment, Becca glanced at the next person over. Amid the hazy light, Flossie Wright stood shrouded in dim shades. She then faced Glenn Hutchinson, raising her voice, "But I want to know how far I am behind her!"
Becca was not naive enough to think that she could surpass Flossie in shooting. She admitted that she would not be able to hit the same hole with five bullets, nor be able to hit all ten bullets in the first ring under harsh weather conditions.
This could not be achieved overnight. Becca only started handling guns when she joined the Forces; thus, she was aware of her own limitations.
"By quite a lot!"
Glenn Hutchinson responded blandly, turning away even before finishing his sentence, heading straight towards the next location.
He was not trying to brush Becca off, but Flossie’s shooting skill was beyond comparison for these rookies.
For example, Flossie had been casual throughout, only aiming once at the beginning. Thereafter, she nonchalantly fired the gun, treating it like a game throughout.
Having received this information, Flossie glanced at Glenn Hutchinson’s retreating figure, then casually looked at Becca, narrowed her eyes slightly, and asked, "You, want to compete with me?"
"Is there a problem?" Becca raised her eyebrows in her direction.
After a brief pause, Flossie chuckled, her lips curled into a slight smile, "Better work hard."
Becca paused slightly, noticing no other emotions in Flossie’s expression, just a hint of disjointed nonchalance.
As if she didn’t care about such things at all.
Randomly, Becca felt a little stifled, thinking of Flossie’s physical fitness, she had a strange feeling of incongruity.
