"What happened?"
Just after hanging up the phone, she heard Belinda Nichols’s cold voice asking.
Turning her head slightly, and upon glancing up, she saw Belinda Nichols standing beside her.
"It’s nothing." Flossie shrugged her shoulders, put her phone back into the drawer, and said, "I’ll be taking leave tomorrow."
"For how long?"
With a flicker in her eyes, Belinda Nichols asked with a steady tone.
"Three days."
After a moment of silence, Belinda Nichols looked at her and slowly said, "Stay safe."
Flossie nodded her head.
Without asking for the reason, once Belinda Nichols got the answer, she left promptly and decisively.
That evening, Becca Reyes, who came over to visit and learned that Flossie was taking leave, had a much bigger reaction than Belinda Nichols.
"Taking leave?!" Becca Reyes widened her eyes, "Did the Captain approve it, did something happen at home?"
After having a bath, Flossie replied while drying her hair, responding to her questions.
"What happened?" Sensing something ominous, Becca Reyes asked again.
She remembered the last time Flossie and Rowdy Brightwill took leave to go back home, it seemed to be then that they got involved with the marriage arrangement.
So, what about this time?
Flossie gave her a faint glance.
"Fine, I won’t ask!"
Becca Reyes immediately raised both hands, pretending as if she hadn’t said anything.
However, she still had a vague feeling about it and sighed secretly, her doubts growing even more.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The door was knocked three times.
Just as her attention was drawn to the door, she heard a gentle voice asking, "Is Flossie Wright there?"
Becca Reyes answered for her.
But when she turned around and saw the visitor, she was suddenly taken aback.
Uh, Captain Peng.
"Come out for a moment."
With a gentle gaze, Captain Peng looked at Flossie and spoke softly.
Flossie responded, tossed the towel into Becca Reyes’s arms, and immediately walked toward the door.
Seeing her approach, Captain Peng sized her up for a few moments, then walked a few steps outside the corridor and said, "Let’s talk here."
Flossie paused in her stride, glanced into the dormitory, noticed several probing gazes, and her eyebrows raised sharp as she reached out to close the door behind her.
She quickly reached where Captain Peng stood and stopped.
"I’ve already heard about the issues at home."
Looking at her calmly, Captain Peng’s voice carried a hint of gravity.
Flossie didn’t speak, waiting for her to continue.
"Your dad already spoke with the Brigadier to request your leave, but there’s one thing he specifically discussed with me. I’m only responsible for passing the message; the decision will wait until you get back."
Speaking slowly, Captain Peng glanced up slightly, her gaze glancing fleetingly over Flossie.
"Go ahead."
Flossie said calmly.
"Your family," Captain Peng hesitated for a moment, then said, "seems not to approve of you becoming a Frogman."
"My family?" Flossie raised her eyebrows.
"Your dad."
After a pause, Captain Peng said tentatively.
"The reason."
Flossie’s voice was calm.
"Didn’t he tell you?" Captain Peng seemed quite surprised.
Such matters should be discussed first and foremost with Flossie, shouldn’t they?
Flossie suddenly understood.
Probably, when Regan Wright called that afternoon, he wanted to discuss this issue, but she had been genuinely annoying, so he didn’t mention it.
"He didn’t." Flossie said.
"It seems to be your grandfather’s wish," Captain Peng said, "Your parents kept it a secret from him when you were applying for the new recruits’ selection. He always thought you were in the cooking class, only discovering the truth after your results were confirmed."
Grandfather?
Flossie frowned in confusion.
Wasn’t it said that this grandfather was very pleased with her joining the military?
Why was he so adamantly opposed now that she had passed the selection and become an official Frogman?
