It wasn’t until later that Glenn Hutchinson saved the girlfriend of Sergeant Lin, in the process of rescuing hostages. Grateful, Sergeant Lin naturally became closer to Glenn Hutchinson.
Things were simple; they didn’t always conform to rumors. Yet, rumors weren’t unfounded, Sergeant Lin did owe Glenn Hutchinson, even though Glenn himself never felt the same way.
Hearing Sergeant Lin speak emphatically about Glenn Hutchinson, Flossie Wright realized he might have misunderstood her meaning.
In truth, Glenn Hutchinson was just a starting point for her topic. She was more interested in Sergeant Lin’s personal affairs.
"Then why did you leave?"
She did not interrupt Sergeant Lin until he had said all he wanted, but only then did she pose another question.
Why would he leave the Special Forces, where he had been doing well, to switch to the Navy?
Sergeant Lin blinked a few times and glanced at her strangely, but he answered honestly nonetheless; "Most people couldn’t handle it there."
As he spoke, Sergeant Lin’s gaze grew distant, his expression became somber, hinting that he had some distressing experiences.
Even in a role as a cook, one would have to endure significant pressure there.
Seeing soldiers progress vigorously would inspire people, but watching them collapse in the darkness, with nothing one could do to help, could be devastating. In such a place, even someone involved in logistics has to have a strong will.
Of course, this was just one aspect of it.
"That’s it?"
Flossie Wright was somewhat surprised, she always thought that Sergeant Lin was rather unique, not "just an average Joe".
So, Sergeant Lin looked at her, his determined features softened by a gentle glow, "I have a son."
After a moment, Flossie Wright finally understood.
"It’s almost noon, let’s go back."
Looking up at the sun hanging high in the sky, Sergeant Lin stood up, patted the dust off his clothes, and went to pick up the basket filled with cabbages.
"Sergeant Lin."
Watching Sergeant Lin’s retreating figure, Flossie Wright suddenly called out to him.
Stopping his steps, Sergeant Lin turned to look at her, wondering what she wanted.
Hiding a flash of emotion behind her narrow eyes, Flossie Wright looked up, her usually emotionless face showing a hint of seriousness, she spoke one word at a time, "I will not betray the Forces."
Because of people like you, she would never betray the Forces.
All this while, she had been holding a grudge against this place, but her dissatisfaction had always been directed at this country, not at the people who lived here, grew here, and actively maintained their optimism.
Let it be.

Her hatred and grudges have never had a place to vent.
The world was such an unfair place that it hadn’t even given her an opportunity for revenge.
Sergeant Lin watched her for a while, then slowly nodded his head.
He had once doubted whether Flossie Wright would do anything detrimental to the Forces, but for people like Flossie Wright, if a promise was made, one could believe her without hesitation.
When Flossie returned to the kitchen, Becca Reyes and the others had almost arrived. Unlike Flossie who was wearing tattered clothes and wandering around, Becca Reyes went to the Dormitory to get her clothes and take a shower, determined to wash away all the fatigue of the past days.
"You should change your clothes too."
As he entered the kitchen, Sergeant Lin glanced at Flossie Wright several times, then finally furrowed his brow and said this without giving Flossie Wright any chance to contaminate any ingredients in the kitchen.
