Walking into the living room, she saw a stunned Marcel Smith, holding a pistol in one hand and a magazine in the other. His eyes slightly widened, eyebrows furrowed in contemplation as if considering something.
Flossie Wright didn’t pay any attention to him.
"Did you charge it?"
Drying her wet hair, Flossie looked up and asked casually.
"Charge what," Marcel, regaining his composure, continued to speak provocatively, "On this long, lonely night, a man and a woman sharing a room, it’d be a fiery affair if we don’t do something..."
Flossie ignored him.
She walked past him, took her phone, and went into the bedroom.
There was a charger in the bedroom; she had just noticed it.
Marcel was disgruntled and followed her in.
The phone was off because the battery died. Flossie took the charger, plugged it into the power strip, and turned the phone back on.
"You’re going to contact the Forces?"
With his arms crossed, standing beside her, Marcel asked casually.
Setting her turned-on phone aside, Flossie headed directly for the double bed.
With a raised eyebrow, Marcel shamelessly followed, "Nice..."
However, he took only two steps before meeting Flossie’s cold gaze.
"Get out. You’re sleeping on the couch."
Word by word, Flossie made herself very clear.
"Why? It’s my room!"
"If you dare, sleep here."
She raised her clenched fist and shot him a threatening glance.
"Hehe..." Marcel immediately backed down, smiling, "No problem, I’m kind-hearted. I can’t bear to see young women like you suffer. This bed is yours. Have a good rest. Don’t lose sleep over feeling guilty..."
Before he could finish talking, Flossie kicked him out.
She shut the door.
With a loud bang.
Marcel, left with his nose out of joint.
After some thought, Marcel pouted in self-pity.
He had been up all night and was a bit tired. So without causing any more fuss, Marcel took a bath and obediently went to sleep on the sofa.
In the bedroom, Flossie dried her hair a bit more and threw the towel away.
She turned off the light and went to sleep.
The next day.
Flossie was awakened by a phone call again.
The buzzing irritated her, making her frown in her sleep.
She got into bed past three last night; it was only five in the morning now. She had barely slept for two hours.
Presumably, some other people had gotten even less sleep than her.
The phone screen was flashing.
The room was dark, chilly, with only the feeble light from the phone screen.
The phone was on the bedside table. Flossie squinted, propped herself up with her elbow, and reached out to grab her phone.
To her surprise.
The name flash on the screen was Rowdy Brightwill.
Picking up the call, Flossie put the phone to her ear.
"At last, you answered your phone..." Rowdy sighed, immediately asking, "Where are you?"
"What you did last night, they know."
Taking a pause, Flossie smirked, "So, they want to haul me back and question me?"
Reluctantly responding, Rowdy sounded unsure.
Frowning, Flossie said, "Tell the truth."
"Uh, I’m serious." Rowdy rushed to explain, "Austin suppressed the matter. At first, the police wanted to talk to you to understand what happened, after all, your action could disrupt their undercover plan. But you know, our ... cough, Forces, always protect their own."
