The damage of the earthquake was so extensive that it could reduce an entire city to rubble in an instant.
Now, Flossie Wright and her group tread upon these ruins.
They moved swiftly, navigating through buildings that could collapse at any moment, their footsteps light.
Yet they were all aware that beneath the obstacles they had just passed, might lie undiscovered souls.
After the earthquake, thousands of soldiers were searching, but a city has so many people. Despite their meticulous rescue efforts, some victims would inevitably be overlooked.
"Hey, Flossie."
Picking up his pace, Willie Ash caught up to Flossie Wright, asking in a low voice, "You were in the middle of selections, weren’t you?"
"Took a leave to come here?"
Ray glanced at him, but Flossie Wright didn’t answer.

Seeing Wright quicken her pace even more, Willie Ash was puzzled and hurried to keep up with her.
This time, however, he dared not ask again.
Throughout the journey, Flossie moved very quickly, demanding Willie to exert himself to keep up.
Her actions illustrated what it meant to "see someone in a new light after a short separation."
Willie Ash, having followed her the entire way, couldn’t help feeling a bit sentimental.
After nearly twenty minutes of walking, Willie became increasingly anxious and couldn’t resist speaking to Flossie Wright again.
Jumping down effortlessly from a two-meter height, Flossie Wright brushed off her hands, answering nonchalantly.
Willie Ash jumped down too and walked up to her, but before he could speak, his attention was drawn to a clamor nearby.
Stopping in her tracks, Flossie Wright also looked up, following the direction of the noise.
There stood a collapsed Education Building.
Leaning precariously, the debris was piled high, bricks shattered into heaps, and the once-upright structure, like the ones they had been seeing along the way, was reduced to just a portion of its framework, barely identifiable.
About a dozen soldiers were gathered, discussing something, with a few civilians nearby, mostly in pairs, who looked like parents.
The familiar Education Building drew Wright’s gaze for a few extra moments.
Past Qing Mountain Street was a high school, where children from several nearby streets went to study.
Erina Taylor, too, had emerged from there in her younger days.
"What’s happening over there?"
After a pause, Flossie Wright asked.
"Over there..."
Dragging his words, Willie Ash looked towards the direction of the Education Building, his tone somewhat helpless, "In the high school, some students who live far away stay at the school. These days, they’ve been focusing more on that area. The students in the Dormitory Building have mostly been found, but there are still a few students unaccounted for..."
As he spoke, Willie fell silent for a moment, the weight of the situation evident in his voice, "Later, some surviving ninth-grade students said that some of their classmates were staying up late studying in the Education Building. You know the middle school exams are coming up, and the dormitory performs checks, so the Education Building was relatively safer."
His words ended there.
Willie Ash didn’t continue.
It went without saying.
Those students who had probably been toiling away, trapped in that Dormitory Building, were initially overlooked by the rescue team, which hadn’t received any prior information and had inadvertently neglected them.
After dealing with the people in the Dormitory Building, some rescue teams moved to other areas. They hadn’t expected another incident like this, and naturally, the parents were crying and causing a commotion, insisting on finding their children.
As a result—
The scene before them unfolded.
Two and a half days had passed since the earthquake. Even if the students inside had initially survived, what about the aftershocks that followed? Could anyone guarantee they were still alive?
