It was unclear whether she heard some noise from the phone or sensed something while standing downstairs, but after just a glance, the man below lifted his head, the black umbrella slightly tilted backward.
His deep and sharp features became exposed the moment they shifted under the umbrella, and in the dim world, that face seemed to vanish into the haze.
Yet, with just a single glance, Flossie Wright could recognize his identity.
The three-dimensional features, the stern expression, the tall and straight figure, and that army uniform.
He was holding his phone, pressing it to his ear, and Flossie could hear the muted sound of rain hitting the umbrella.
Flossie narrowed her eyes but couldn’t hide the fleeting look that crossed the depths of her eyes.
"Is there something you need?"
Taking a deep breath, Flossie asked softly.
Downstairs, Glenn Hutchinson raised his head, his gaze lingering on her as he spoke with gravity, enunciating each word, "I missed you."
His clear voice, word by word, sank into her ears.
The grip on her phone tightened ever so slightly, Flossie furrowed her brows and deliberately turned away, avoiding his gaze.
Facing the door, Flossie’s figure shifted slightly and she paused for a long time.
"I’m coming down," her voice was cool, light and breezy, as if scattered by the sound of rain.
As soon as the words fell, she hung up the phone.
She turned around and went downstairs.
Her steps were steady; she walked neither too quickly nor too slowly, yet time seemed to stretch out, as Glenn Hutchinson watched intently the occasional glimpse of her figure on the staircase.
Flossie reached the ground floor.
She was only holding her phone, not carrying an umbrella, but after a glance at him, she walked expressionlessly into the rain.
In the blink of an eye, her clothes were thoroughly soaked.
Frowning, Glenn quickly stepped forward and walked toward her.
They were not far apart, walking towards each other, and soon met in the torrential downpour.
Once he stood before her, Glenn tilted the umbrella forward, sheltering her slender body beneath it.
Without a training uniform to change into, Flossie, after her shower, was wearing a white long-sleeve T-shirt and black casual pants, her hair quickly wet, the tips dripping as she bowed her head, and her long-sleeve T-shirt thoroughly soaked, revealing the contour of her figure beneath the thin fabric.
With a quick glance, Glenn retracted his gaze, his throat unconsciously moving.
"Why are you free?"
After looking at him twice, Flossie moved the damp hair from her forehead aside and asked casually, as if she was speaking to an old friend.
The cold war at their last parting, and the almost breaking words between them, seemed to have been torn apart by time, vanishing into thin air.
"Selecting troops, just passing by."
Bowing his head to look at her, Glenn’s voice was very low, yet carried a seductive huskiness.
Just as Flossie responded, a cold wind swept through with the rain, causing her to frown and suddenly hug her arms around herself.
Stepping forward and drawing closer, Glenn held the umbrella tightly, one arm reaching around her shoulders, and with a slight force, pulled her into his embrace.
The cold momentarily distracted Flossie, and Glenn’s sudden move caught her off guard; by the time Flossie reacted, she was already wrapped in his arms.
The force pressing down on her shoulders was so intense it made her feel uneasy, causing her to instinctively grab his collar.
"Looking for another fight?"
Raising her eyes, Flossie’s gaze was cold and sharp with irritation as she shot it towards him.
Lowering his head, Glenn looked at her earnestly, his eyes seeming to sweep over every part of her face, observing any minor changes that had occurred in the two months since they’d seen each other.
