Similarly, along with her sorrow, she was also filled with anticipation.
For the future military life.
The following day.
The rhythmic banging of pots stirred by the ever-enthusiastic Flossie Wright as usual.
However, no one complained or scolded her this time.
"Rising so early."
"Hey, hey, hey, take a break. After moving out there are no more lazy mornings."
"I’ve never seen you so hardworking..."
Exclamations and advice pouring out of the soldier’s dormitory. Even the two newcomers poked their heads out to join the excitement, admiring the legendary ’cooking class member’ they had not had much contact with before.
However, Flossie as usual managed to wake everyone up but, unlike the usual, didn’t go help in the kitchen.
Under the squad leader’s instruction, they all returned to the dormitory to pack their belongings.
The dormitory’s rules were clear to them, they carried only the basics. As for the homemade, gimmicky training equipment, they had disposed of them in advance.
Neither of them had much stuff and within 10 minutes everything was packed.
With two beds gone, the whole dormitory felt much emptier.
"I wonder if they will fight again."
Shrugging, Becca Reyes looked around the empty dormitory and sighed.
Although they did not get along with Neal Thompson and Yvonne Watson, the latter two were also wary of them. It was an odd way of cohabitation, but Becca didn’t personally mind it.
After all, even if there were unpleasant experiences, they were left behind for Neal Thompson and Yvonne Watson.
"They will," Flossie scarcely pondered on the matter. With her belongings and blanket hoisted up, she headed towards the exit."Let’s go."
Nodding, Becca Reyes followed closely behind.
The sky had just started to brighten and Austin Shepherd was already waiting for them in the kitchen.
"Over here."
Recognizing them from afar, Austin Shepherd signaled them to follow him from the kitchen backdoor. His demeanour was as vivacious and cheerful as always.
"Pastor Instructor."
Closing in on him, Becca Reyes greeted him.
Flossie merely nodded at him.
"Follow me."
Smiling, Austin Shepherd gestured with his hand, leading the two of them away.
There was no need for a farewell with the cooking class, since they would see each other at breakfast time, no need for sentimentalities.
But, this time they were truly leaving.
Unless something unexpected happened, they wouldn’t come back.
Though the day was just dawning, the fields were buzzing with vitality, with soldiers getting up early to exercise. The new recruits were especially noticeable amongst them.
Skirting the field, Austin Shepherd led them to the dormitory building.

The Amphibious Combat Team was not large in number, but the reason the new recruit selections took place there was not only because of their equipment and space, but also because of the two buildings specifically designated for each year’s new recruit selection.
One building each for male and female soldiers. However, because of a gender imbalance, the female soldiers had much more relaxed accommodations. They lived in four-person dormitories, whereas their male counterparts were crowded into eight to ten-person dormitories.
By this time, the female soldiers were generally awake. From the base of the dormitory building, one could vaguely see a few of them gargling and frothing at the mouth in the hallway.
After staying in the forces for a while, even the women inevitably adopted a bit of a hearty character.
"Your dormitory is on the third floor," Austin Shepherd touched his nose, hesitated for a moment, then said, "I’ll take you up."
In the forces, there was a strict division between male and female. As a male instructor, he should have minimized his visitations to the women’s dormitories. However, he was well aware of Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes’ characters, just as he was well aware of the characters of the two in their new dormitory.
He probably needed to introduce them.
