By the time Flossie Wright and Glenn Hutchinson returned to the Base, it was evening. The scene was of sunset interweaving over the sea’s horizon, not the heavy snowfall in the Capital City.
The sea breeze was gentle, the waves lapped softly.
Far from the hustle and bustle, there were winding peaks and densely layered trees presenting a scenery completely different from the north.
The land here was full of vigor.
In just a few days, the Base was almost as remembered. Before meal and rest time, soldiers clad in uniforms could be seen undergoing rigorous training in the open field. Their loud and passionate cries could be heard from a distance.
"Oh, you’re back?"
As soon as they arrived at the cooking class, they met an attendant who had just finished feeding the pigs. The attendant cheerfully greeted Flossie - yet showing no signs of surprise.
Everyone in the cooking class knew about Janice Wood’s situation, some even visited the hospital. They all knew that Flossie and Janice were good friends, so they naturally wouldn’t be surprised to see her back.
After the greeting, the attendant noticed Glenn Hutchinson standing next to Flossie, holding many items in his hand. He was so surprised that he froze.
Earlier, there was a rumor that Flossie had left with Rowdy Brightwill. The idle soldiers gossiped, speculated, and even wagered that Flossie and Rowdy Brightwill had perhaps met each other’s parents when they returned. But now...
Seeing Glenn Hutchinson standing next to Flossie and loyalty epitomized, while there is no sign of Rowdy Brightwill who left with her ...
The attendant found too much information to process.
"Yes." Flossie nodded to the attendant, maintaining her usual cold demeanor, without any hint of joy for the reunion.
The attendant, who was dumbfounded by the sight of Glenn Hutchinson, didn’t pay attention to her tone. He was startled for a moment before greeting respectfully: "Captain Hutchinson."
No matter how Glenn Hutchinson appeared, his identity and rank wouldn’t change. Therefore, no matter how strange he found the relationship between Glenn and Flossie, he timidly lowered his gaze.
In comparison to Flossie’s response, Glenn Hutchinson appeared cold and only gave a simple nod to the attendant without uttering a word.
However, the attendant was flattered.
"You must be heading to the dormitory?" The attendant composed himself, returned to the task at hand, and said to Flossie, "Becca Reyes is still at the hospital. If you’re going there, could you take some dinner for her?"
Flossie paused, then added pointedly, "We haven’t eaten either."
The attendant blinked, stunned for a moment, before understanding her request. He laughed and replied,
"Sure, I’ll have the head cook prepare something special for you!"
Being in the cooking class, preparing special meals occasionally was expected, especially since they would pay for their own extra ingredients. It was simply an extra bit of work for the head cook. Moreover, with Glenn Hutchinson present, thinking back to the days of preferential treatment, providing them with a special meal took no consideration.
