"Your friend, Janice Wood, has been hospitalized." Rowdy Brightwill reluctantly picked up the subject, but he deliberately avoided looking at Flossie Wright, "If you have time, you should go see her."
"Also," Winsley Scott eagerly leaned over and added, "You’re in the cooking class, right? Can you make the meals somewhat better for the patient?"
Flossie Wright knowingly swept a glance at the two men. Isn’t that the point?
Rowdy Brightwill avoided her gaze, touched his nose, and pretended to be completely oblivious. He scanned the surroundings but never met her eyes.
"Which one of you two is trying to pursue her?" Flossie asked leisurely, weighing them up. However, she’d already pretty much guessed the answer.
After the last time Winsley saw Janice’s shooting skills, his demeanor had changed significantly. He even actively initiated conversation with Janice; plainly, he had feelings for her.
However, she couldn’t say for sure; she was usually quite reserved when it came to matters of the heart. She always considered people like her a burden, hence she never bothered to understand what normal, unlike her, were like.
Regardless, she never intended to meddle.
She didn’t take it upon herself to offer help or make decisions on anyone’s behalf.
"How could it be me?!" Rowdy Brightwill was taken aback by Flossie’s question, and he immediately furrowed his brows in dispute.
They were an engaged couple, does this woman have no sense of awareness at all?!
Flossie looked at him puzzled. If he said no, then it was no. Why was he getting all worked up?
"Hehe." Winsley Scott chuckled foolishly at the side, unfazed by the prospect of being thrown under the bus, "He wants to pursue you."
"Tch." Rowdy Brightwill uttered in disdain, yet he continued to evade Flossie’s gaze. He neither admitted nor denied, which somehow implied a quiet admission.
Flossie fell into thought, her gaze swept over Rowdy and quickly recollected her nonchalance. She lightly narrowed her eyes, "Wait for me outside."
From start to finish, she didn’t seem to pay any heed to Winsley’s words.
Watching her enter the door, Rowdy felt a strange discomfort and restlessness, as though something was lodged in his chest.
"Why did she show no reaction at all?!" Winsley widened his eyes in disbelief.
Anyone would have had a reaction to that, how could she possibly... show no reaction at all?!
"Shut your trap next time!" Rowdy smacked him on the head. The triumphant look on his face vanished, replaced by the heaviness in his eyes and brow.
Winsley, having been smacked, wanted to retaliate but seeing Rowdy’s state, he decided against it after considering. "My turn to be the bigger person," he thought, "No point trying to reason with a violent man."
Upon her return to the kitchen, Flossie went to find the head chef to whip up something light. As a member of the cooking class, she could unabashedly operate a small stove. Moreover, she was responsible for groceries and could bring home ingredients at any time. As long as she had time and the head chef’s approval, she could cook at will.
The head chef worked swiftly, it was his duty to take care of the patients. He was very meticulous and quickly prepared a few carefully crafted dishes, even taking the time to pack them up nicely for Flossie.
As a friend, Flossie visiting Janice was mighty reasonable.
However, the atmosphere was especially awkward when she left with Rowdy Wright and Winsley Scott.
Apparently, she hadn’t found things to be uncomfortable while Rowdy was caught in an eerie silence. He didn’t speak a word nor make a sound, almost like a statue. Winsley, always clumsy with words, was clueless about how to start a conversation. Furthermore, without Rowdy’s implicit prompting and guidance, he struggled even to utter a word. Naturally, he could only maintain his silence just like Rowdy.
