"Wah, I don’t want to go procurement anymore! I’d rather die than go procurement!"
The voice, nearly crying out, is so heart-wrenching that you can feel it even through a closed door.
The three of them stopped in their tracks, pausing in front of the door.
Austin Shepherd turned his head to glance at them, a placating smile alighting on his face, "Let’s go in first."
Having said that, he pushed open the door directly.
Inside was the kitchen, cleaner and tidier than imagined, everything arranged in an orderly manner. What came into view immediately were several burly men in camouflage garb and white aprons, their imposing and robust figures sweeping away any trace of the feminine aura typically associated with the kitchen.
The only female soldier in the kitchen was crouched on the ground, her head buried in her knees, crying softly. The voice that had echoed out through the door undoubtedly belonged to her.
Looking at those burly men, there was a sense of helplessness on their faces, coupled with a hint of impatience.
"What happened?"
Austin took a few steps inside, curiously glanced at the female soldier, then shifted his gaze to the squad leader of the cooking class standing in the middle and asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Great, your timing is perfect, Austin," the squad leader of the cooking class was good-looking, but clearly impatient, "Little Li, that procurement officer, left a few days ago, right? The new procurement officer has been horribly ripped off by the sellers these past few days, when are you going to send some people..."
As the cooking class squad leader trailed off, his roving gaze ultimately landed on Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes following behind. His eyebrows knotted slightly, his tone sarcastic, "I say, leader, are you dropping off two more ancestors for us?"
Becca, trailing behind, only came to her senses when she heard the squad leader’s initial address. She looked at Austin’s shoulder in surprise, and the shock was instantly evident.
A single bar with three stars.
Her gaze lingered on Austin’s back for a moment, then shifted to Flossie who appeared unexpectedly calm. She wasn’t sure whether Flossie was unaware or had noticed it already.
"Chef Li, complaining about female soldiers isn’t cool," Austin warned with feigned solemnity, "Gender doesn’t determine individual abilities. Don’t kill them off with one stroke without letting them perform for a few days!"
Chef Li frowned, knowing that he couldn’t dodge this issue. He looked over the two female soldiers in annoyance, then pointed at Becca, "You, follow Little Yan to feed pigs tomorrow."
After a pause, he turned to Flossie, "You follow this ancestor..." He gestured at the crying female soldier on the ground, then waved dismissively, "You’ll go for procurement tomorrow."
"Yes, sir!" Flossie responded as per the rules, but she was rather helpless inside. So even in the cooking class, she was also being discriminated against.
Next to her, Becca’s face turned pale at the word "feed pigs." In the forces, commands could in no way be defied. Naturally, she could only endure the humiliation and accept it. Her already unhappy expression had turned utterly gloomy.
The crying female soldier on the ground saw that no one was paying attention to her and Chef Li had no intention of changing his mind, so she could only stand up timidly, pathetically looking at Chef Li, "I..."
"Perfect, you take these two new recruits to the dorm." Chef Li cut her off mid-sentence, "You’re a veteran soldier, act like one!"
His statement made the weeping female soldier so choked that she dared not protest again. She could only swallow all her grievances.
"Austin," the female soldier walked up to Austin wiping away her tears, like a wronged little wife, her tearful eyes filled with a thousand emotions, "I’ll take them to the dorm first."
