True to form, Mrs. Wright naturally attributed it all to the Forces’ good work, but thinking about the hardships Flossie had to endure in the Forces made her wish for her capricious and willful daughter of the past. Even though she was always a handful, at least she lived comfortably.
Tonight, Mrs. Wright prepared loads of dishes. Flossie, perhaps understanding her mother’s feelings, didn’t find it wasteful. She simply took charge of cutting her own vegetables and keeping the kitchen clean. The amount of dishes to be cooked was entirely up to Mrs. Wright, who did all the work herself.
Having prepared all the meals, Mrs. Wright watched as Flossie busied herself alone in the kitchen. She felt proud but also somewhat embarrassed, so she went over to help. However, within a few minutes, she had broken three bowls and was promptly escorted out by Flossie. She stood at the door, concerned that her image had been tarnished.
Her eyebrows maintained a hidden worry right until Dian Deacon came home.

"Flossie Wright, is that you? You’ve grown so much since I saw you last!"
Upon entering the house, Dian spoted Flossie coming out of the kitchen. Having been informed by Mrs. Wright, he was not surprised and a sincere smile naturally appeared on his face.
Dian and Mrs. Wright never had children, even though they both agreed on the decision. However, he occasionally thought it would be nice to have a child and had always wanted to treat Flossie as his own. Nonetheless, Flossie, who rarely had anyone paying her attention in the Wright family, was always defensively distant. Their relationship never improved; they had barely seen each other since she went to college. Therefore, seeing her today brought him a pleasant surprise.
She seemed a bit different now.
"Uncle Dian."
Flossie gave him a few glances then nodded at him.
"You’re home?" Seeing him, Mrs. Wright naturally went over to welcome him. Her eyes beamed with happiness and they instantly formed an unspoken connection. She took his coat and considerately hung it on the wall.
It was undeniable that Mrs. Wright was not very active, but her cooking skills were top-notch. The whole table was full of delicious dishes. Dian, a sweet-talker and someone who knew how to please his wife, began complimenting her cooking from the first bite, endlessly praising her without repeating any compliments. However, Mrs. Wright, who was used to his flattery, didn’t mind at all. It was only when she heard Flossie say "delicious" that she beamed with joy.
Dian was a humorous man who knew how to pamper his wife. Of course, he wouldn’t forget their "daughter", Flossie. Ever since he came back, the entire living room was lively again without any awkwardness whatsoever.
As Flossie calmly ate her dinner, she began to understand why Mrs. Wright gave up her luxurious life back then to marry Dian, a mere clerk at the time.
Real love could make people willingly give up a lot of things, even if it was incredibly ordinary.
Luckily for Mrs. Wright and Dian, they were still as inseparable as they were when they first fell in love, even after more than a decade of marriage. This was indeed rare.
At least, Flossie had never seen such love before.
However, not long after dinner, a phone call disrupted their harmony and joy.
It was from Mr. Wright, who forcefully dialed Mrs. Wright’s number and demanded to speak with Flossie right away. His tone was unsatisfactory throughout the call, making Mrs. Wright feel like nothing more than a middleman for his message.
