Clad in military uniform, he stood handsome and upright.
Stunned, Becca Reyes’ eyes widened in surprise, struggling to react.
"Let’s go."
Suddenly, Flossie Wright’s voice echoed from behind her, pulling Becca back from her daze.
"Floss..." Becca turned to respond, but was taken aback at the sight of the eggs on Flossie’s plate. "Where did you get those eggs?"
"Picked them up from the kitchen."
Flossie shrugged, as if it was nothing unusual.
Becca was stunned.
Only Flossie could casually pull off such a bold act without a blush.
Glancing at the eggs in the tray, Becca let out a long sigh, somehow feeling restless and confused.
"Flossie, what should I do?"
Seated in the corner, Becca picked at her breakfast with a troubled look, pouring out her worries to Flossie.
Calvin Ramos, Calvin Ramos...
Only he could occupy her thoughts to such an extent.
"Cold treatment."
A chilling response, Flossie continued peeling her eggs.
"What would you do..." Becca asked, reconsidering her phrasing, "in this situation?"
Flossie glanced up at Becca’s untouched plate and said, "Make the most of your time. Eat."
Becca instinctively glanced at her military-style watch.
Out of her ten-minute meal time, already eight minutes had passed.
Panicking, Becca started shoving her breakfast into her mouth without wasting another second. Her worries about Calvin were instantly relegated to the back of her mind.
Flossie withdrew her gaze leisurely.
Despite being so busy, she marveled at Becca’s ability to find time to worry about so many things.
Actually, no one had any spare time to worry about anything else.
After morning exercises and a ten-minute mealtime came more training.
Most were high-intensity physical workouts, from dawn till dusk, including cross-country running, log-carrying running, boat-carrying running, underwater running, and a 400-meter obstacle run...
There was no more time for them to plan their own training. They had to obey and complete assigned tasks within a set timeline.
From morning till night, they were physically and mentally drained.
The only relaxation they had was the diving course.
As naval soldiers, diving was a fundamental skill. However, among these new recruits, only a few grew up by the seaside. Consequently, diving was taught from scratch, naturally consuming quite a chunk of time.
By the end of the day, more than half of the field was trampled. The smaller portion... well, was left lying flat.
"Isn’t this training intensity a bit too high?"
At dawn, Rowdy Brightwill, who had observed all day, finally came to the field, quietly sneaking up behind Austin Shepherd and Nathan Foster.
"Feeling sorry for them?"
Austin Shepherd smiled, swinging a whistle in his hand.
"No, no, no..." Rowdy denied promptly.
Ever since becoming an instructor, Rowdy felt his old friend had evolved into a sadist. Naturally, he didn’t dare to follow Austin’s lead.
After all, how long Flossie trained was entirely up to Austin.
"What’s the Captain up to? He has finalized the list of Amphibious Reconnaissance Team reserves, right?" Rowdy drawled with a hushed voice, inching closer to the pair.
Austin narrowed his eyes at him, snickering, "What’s the matter, spying?"
"No," Rowdy immediately leaned on Austin’s shoulder, ingratiating himself with a sly grin, "I’m just curious. Your dramatic training drills can’t just be for selecting a few hundred people, right?"
Nathan Foster gave them sidelong glances, a bit turned off by their sheepish grins. He took a few steps forward and waved the pile of mud on the ground to go eat dinner.
"You don’t have to worry about Flossie," Austin said, "No matter what, the Marine Corps will definitely keep her."
Since the exercise, Flossie had been under the special attention of the Brigadier General. Her stay was assured, but her specific placement would depend on her capability.
She couldn’t prepare for this in advance.
But, her name would definitely be on the list of the women’s Amphibious Reconnaissance Team.
Consequently, Rowdy, now reassured, relaxed and gave Austin’s shoulder a friendly pat.
"Let’s go, I’ll treat you to dinner in the canteen."
"I don’t have time." Austin shrugged his hand off.
"What are you doing?"
"Planning for tonight’s training."
Rowdy secretly clenched his teeth and inwardly cursed Austin, likening him to the sadistic Drake Easton.
He used to think Austin was quite a decent guy, but ever since becoming an instructor, his ruthless methods had reached a whole new level of terror. Now, he was no less than Drake Easton.
