The sky was dark, illuminated only by the light of street lamps.
In the silent night, all that could be heard were the orderly footsteps, as if heralding the morning’s chimes.
At the assembly ground, the male soldiers were already gathered. Two groups lined up together, listening to Ella Pemberton read the division of groups and then promptly aligning themselves into rows with their respective teams.
Six people to a group.
Flossie Wright’s luck wasn’t great; she was assigned to a group with individuals she hadn’t interacted with before.
The only interaction was during training when she would occasionally dominate them.
Luckily, they were all sensible. Although their looks towards her were a bit peculiar, the sentiment was mostly one of resignation, and none of them caused a fuss about being grouped with her.
As usual, as soon as the groupings were done, the helicopter was ready, specifically descending onto the field to collect them.
And so, the line of soldiers boarded the helicopter in an orderly manner.
After nearly three hours of flight, around nine in the morning, Flossie Wright’s team performed a low-altitude rope descent to an island.
Beneath was a beach where everyone landed smoothly.
"Hey, arrived?"
"Are they Frogmen?"
"Why are there so many female soldiers?"
No sooner did the six people land than numerous soldiers, who were previously undetectable on the deserted beach, suddenly appeared, and their sarcastic remarks inevitably fell into their ears.
Except for Flossie Wright, who remained calm and composed, the other five Frogmen’s expressions turned somewhat unsightly.
It wasn’t their fault.
This year’s exercise was different from the last; previously, it involved the Navy from the entire region, but this time it was an internal exercise solely for the Marine Corps. All the members of their Red Team were elite soldiers selected from various units.
Being elites, they had their pride, and the well-known Frogmen naturally rubbed many the wrong way.
Though they would become comrades after the exercise started, it was pretty normal for them to test and provoke a little before it commenced.
As they were surrounded, a few allied soldiers started harping about the female soldiers, their tone full of disdain. One of the hot-tempered female Frogmen couldn’t tolerate it anymore, stepped forward, and with a quick hand, grabbed the nearest ally.
Gripping tightly and with a strong pull, she dragged him over to her.
"What’s the matter, looking down on female soldiers?"
The female Frogman’s gaze hardened, piercing the allied soldier as if with needles.
The sudden move caught the other allies off guard and it wasn’t until they heard that discontented query did a feeling of dread strike them, their faces instantly turning awkward.
They’d kicked an iron plate.
In the Forces, female soldiers’ status was inherently awkward. Those from the amphibious Frogman team were exceptionally strong, and though the male soldiers were loath to admit it, it was an undeniable fact and not to be avoided.
Seeing female soldiers, their instinct was to scorn, but encountering Flossie’s forceful manner, they realized their comments might have been a bit excessive.
The apprehensive ally, scrutinized by her, quickly backed down with a denial.
A wise man doesn’t fight with a fearsome woman!
He couldn’t possibly start a fight with a woman, could he?!
With an irritated snort, the female soldier withdrew her gaze and pushed the allied soldier back before turning away.
She purposely exerted a lot of force, the soldier she had gripped stumbled backward a few steps before managing to steady himself. When he looked up at her again, his eyes were filled with disbelief.
Good lord, she was incredibly strong.
The other allies, seeing this, stiffened again, feeling even more unable to save face.
