If Rowdy Brightwill were injured and hospitalized here, was Aaron Doom the only one injured?
Flossie Wright’s heart isn’t that wide.
"Anyone else?" Flossie asked, paused for a moment, and added, "In this hospital."
"No, just you and me having a bit of bad luck," as Rowdy Brightwill said this, he felt the reason was unconvincing, so after thinking, he added, "Oh, there are a few others, but they’re not seriously injured, they’re being nurtured back at the Base’s hospital."
"Hmm." Flossie’s brows furrowed slightly, clearly skeptical of Rowdy Brightwill’s explanation.
If that were indeed the case, it would be fine.
Perhaps because she’s not very well-liked, no one’s come to visit her, not even a phone call.
Belinda Nichols?
Anyone could choose not to see her, but Belinda...
Flossie felt her throat tighten, she wanted to ask Rowdy Brightwill about something, but the words wouldn’t come.
Suddenly, she didn’t really want to know what Glenn Hutchinson was hiding from her.
"You rest easy; I’ve spoken to your family, didn’t tell them about your injury." Rowdy Brightwill scratched his head and smiled at her, "But you should get discharged soon, it’s almost New Year’s, they all want you to come back."
Flossie nodded.
Whether it was psychological or something else, she noticed Rowdy Brightwill’s smile was becoming increasingly forced.
So, Flossie opened her mouth, suddenly asked, "Belinda Nichols?"
"Her, ah..." Rowdy Brightwill elongated his voice, his gaze subtly cooling momentarily before his smile deepened, "She went back, urged to return."
Flossie responded nonchalantly.
She didn’t feel like asking further.
"I need to go handle my discharge procedures, so I’m off." Rowdy Brightwill’s smile didn’t falter, yet even he failed to realize how stiff it had become.
Upon his words, as he turned, the smile vanished instantly, his previously cheerful eyes suddenly reddened, the shimmering gleam in his eyes.
Rowdy Brightwill quickened his pace.
As the door closed, Flossie’s gaze fully dimmed.
She lay on the bed motionless, but her eyes remained open, staring at the drifting snowflakes outside.
Winter has arrived, and suddenly it feels a bit chilly.
Just after eight, Glenn Hutchinson entered the ward on time, carrying breakfast.
He saw Flossie lying quietly on the bed, her demeanor indifferent, yet her eyes unblinkingly fixated on him, that gaze felt as though it could pierce through everything.
Glenn Hutchinson walked over, noticed the fruit placed on the bedside cabinet, his brow furrowed, and then he set the breakfast down.
"Belinda Nichols, what’s wrong?"
Flossie articulated each word distinctly, her voice icy, with no inflection, yet the tone was exceptionally cold, cold enough to be chilling.
Glenn Hutchinson’s hand fell suddenly tight.
He didn’t answer directly, didn’t give Flossie a definitive answer.
Yet, silence says it all.
Moments later, Flossie’s voice rasped, speaking softly, "I understand."
The answer was unmistakably clear.
Glenn Hutchinson hid things from her because she was still injured and prone to impulsiveness.
Not letting others see her was out of fear they might accidentally divulge, or signs would be too obvious.
But, what kind of departure would make Glenn Hutchinson this cautious?
