She had passed the stage of pursuit, anxiety, and attachment, so it was even more difficult to find a goal for her.
When she reached outside the cafeteria, Flossie Wright paused, then took a step forward.
She came to stand in front of Perry Reed.
The two stood face to face.
"Perry Reed, I’m no longer Erina Taylor, and I’m quite lucky too," Flossie’s voice was low. She paused, then continued, "I’ve picked up a new life, a clean identity. You can’t drag me back in."
When Flossie said this, her gaze was calm.
She wasn’t intense, argumentative, or combative.
In facing that death and rebirth, she never resented what she lost, she just calmly accepted the new future.
Death was a trial; everything once possessed turned to smoke and vanished, a disaster.
But compared to death, being alive and well made any loss insignificant.
Loss was loss, but as long as she’s alive, she would have more.
Perry Reed stopped and took in all of her expressions.
Surrounded by passersby, occasionally curious glances were cast, but standing quietly by the roadside, the two had no communication yet shared an unexpected understanding.
"Your... well, comrades, I don’t care," Perry Reed started coolly, "I only care about you."
"So?" Flossie raised an eyebrow.
"So," he slowly repeated, with his expression softening slightly, speaking leisurely, "your reason doesn’t hold."
With a smile tugging at her lips, Flossie shrugged, turned indifferently, and walked towards the cafeteria ahead.
Anyway, she hadn’t expected a few words to change Perry Reed’s mind.
But then again...
It wasn’t for nothing to say it.
Inside the cafeteria.
Arriving a little late, Flossie didn’t see many familiar faces, though unsurprisingly, she did spot Iris Dukes still wolfing down food.
Flossie grabbed her meal but avoided the focused-on-dinner Iris Dukes, finding herself a corner seat.
"Hey, Flossie!"
Just as she picked up her chopsticks, Flossie heard a familiar voice.
Then, she looked up.
Sure enough, she spotted Sophie Fitch seating herself across from her.
With her was a friend who had visited Flossie’s house together, though another was missing.
"Flossie, were you at the Training Ground this afternoon?"
Sophie Fitch asked Flossie as she ate.
Picking up a piece of food, Flossie replied blandly.
Sophie Fitch’s eyes instantly brightened.
She had heard rumors today, but having two classes in the afternoon, she rushed over during a break yet didn’t spot Flossie among the crowd.
Because of the tight schedule, she hadn’t had time for a detailed search.
It’s said their training was unimaginably intense, and now, in Sophie’s heart, Flossie’s stature rose significantly.
Flossie remained impassive.
Sophie Fitch, perceptive, soon stopped asking.
However, talking while eating seems to be a common vice among young people now; throughout the meal, she kept chatting with her friend, and the various topics they discussed caught Flossie’s attention.
During their conversation, as Flossie finished her meal, she suddenly called out to them.
The two immediately stopped their conversation.
