In the midst of such a jog filled with ennui, the passionate Isaac Zachary was having a lively chat with Flossie Wright. Even though most of the time it was just him talking, and Flossie had barely paid any attention, her skill in conversing was exceptional. With a seemingly casual statement, she could either get the other party talking non-stop or direct the conversation elsewhere. Even though she was comparatively indifferent, Isaac Zachary’s enthusiasm was not dampened one bit.
He felt such a connection!
Isaac Zachary, completely smitten, was strung along with her enthusiasm.
Last time on the car ride, he had been unable to resist divulging all his information. Reuniting with Flossie Wright again, he hoped to exchange contact information this time.
Ever silent Glenn Hutchinson had been listening to their conversation all this time. Observing Flossie’s talent for beguiling others and Isaac Zachary’s cheerful demeanor, the gloomy aura shrouding him had to some extent dissolved.
"I live right here," after nearly running a full circle, Isaac Zachary finally stopped in front of a villa. As he introduced his living place, he asked out of curiosity, "where do you live, Flossie?"
Glenn, lifting his eyes lazily, smoothly took over the conversation. "We live nearby."
Isaac, who had been happily awaiting Flossie’s reply, was dumbfounded for a moment, dropping his cheerful demeanor.
What does that mean?
Flossie wasn’t as fanatical as these two. After such a long run, she naturally felt tired. Even Glenn’s explicit answer didn’t cause her to react; she simply rolled her eyes, having no energy left to engage with him.
"Aren’t you two just friends?"
After being at a loss for words for a while, Zachary finally managed to collect his thoughts, speaking with an air of suspicion.
"We were friends."
Glenn answered earnestly, his words carrying a strong implicit meaning.
We were friends, but now it’s pitch black outside and Glenn’s still accompanying her for a run, there must be more than just friendship involved.
Even the seemingly innocent and single-minded Zachary, who had accompanied them on the run and then asked Flossie for her address, surely had ulterior motives.
However, he hadn’t thought that the man, who had just looked like an ordinary "friend" throughout the process, would suddenly reveal a new ambiguous position, thereby leaving him no room to make a move.
Zachary felt awkward as he looked at Flossie, who was resting and not paying any attention to their conversation. It seemed as though she had accepted Glenn’s statement as the truth.
Since he wasn’t the type to be thick-skinned, and considering that there was another man beside Flossie implying his ownership over her, Zachary touched his nose in disappointment and bid Flossie goodbye with lowered spirits.
"Should we head back?"
Flossie wiped the sweat off her forehead. This level of exercise may be nothing to Glenn, but it was plenty enough for her as a morning drill in the Forces.
But deep down, she felt that Glenn’s decision to come along must have had more behind it.
As expected, Glenn looked forward towards the dimly lit road and spoke with a steady pace: "Let’s go for another round."
Halting mid-way through wiping her sweat, Flossie cast Glenn a glance and continued with her jog without further ado.
Glenn watched her steady pace. Even when upset, she wouldn’t let it affect her rhythm of running. No matter how disruptive the interference, she would adjust herself accordingly.
